Dearest June! There are 83 members on this forum ! and about 70 of them never post any more. At some point, someone has to ask why. Could it be that repeating the same post over and over again has pushed so many good posters away? I have so far not read a single post on this message board condoning FGM, not a single one, so it is difficult to see who you are arguing with. Why aren't your people extending aslyum to these young women who fear this mutilation? Surely that would help stem the practice?

www.indymedia.ie/article/91360 QUOTE: According to UNICEF three million girls are subjected to Female Genital Mutilation every year. That’s over 8,000 a day. Thanks Mouse, Pumpkinette and others! I appreciate the support for this thread! I am baffled that some wish give this cruel ongoing crime against humanity the silent treatment!

This thread is not saying anything new. Why post the same thing time and time again?
By all means raise awareness but the audience here are A) aware B) culturally unlikely to perform or have perfumed upon them FGM.

So that's a pretty good definition of doing nothing to me!

Many Kurds have obtained asylum in Germany for alledged persecution as well as inhabitants from Somalia, Ethiopia, etc.. I've met a number of these people in Stuttgart, but never discussed the subject of FGM with them because I was ignorant of this! I will however in the future voice my disapproval.
If 8,000 girls daily are subjected to this cruel mutilation we can't follow the monkeys' example above! If parents from these FGM practicing countries living here are made aware that average citizens know of this practice and condemn it that may spare their daughter this permanent mutilation!

ok so we will all sit back and play chess all day but if we follow that reasoning we may as well all pack up and go home..no point in posting anything what ever as ""they dont post here""can include every suject under the sun and exchange of information and ideas can be worth while in its self

Yes, let's discuss it, that's a good idea - guess what, we did and all agreed it was a bad thing. I don't see the point in link upon link of horror stories when no one denies it happens or says its a good thing? What is the point what does it acheive? Posting 'ghoulish' tales doesn't add to the debate does it? It's not debate for a start it's just cut and paste of someone else's experience and it seems to be rather sickly voyeuristic to me. If Anna starts a campaign against FGM then I'd be right behind her but preaching at us on here and bombarding us with tales of woe is getting no one anywhere - and it certainly isn't helping those facing the real threat of FGM, is it!

Dearest June! The crime of FGM is preventable! Since this thread is so active it will soon show up on Google searches and people with a special interest for this subject may join us! The more online noise about this ongoing crime the better!
I avoid being too descriptive or graphic about the mutilation involved! I really don't accept your claim that I'm being gruesome! When the crime of FGM is no longer practiced then threads like this will perhaps only interest historians and surviving victims. I hope that day will come!

As its my point of view I don't need you to accept how I feel about your endless mawkish postings on this subject And this thread will make no difference whatsoever - if you are so passionate about this subject why no do something more relevant?

For the purposes of raising knowledge etc of members in order that they may take action in other places I can see a point to the repeated posts.
For this reason I withdraw my previous post, although I do find the repetiton distasteful and will no longer read this thread. I know all I need to know about this subject.
If it puts off members from coming in or being active I hope they will privately tell Lin.
I personally do see some glee. I find this horrific.

YES! I HATE so much how many years I spent in what I call "me-world". I didn't care about any issue even like this 1! It makes me SICK! I'm so glad I got out of that evil! You're 100% right, mouse and thank you for speaking out! ;D thankyou pumpkin.. the way i look at it the more people know and the better their knowledge then when they speak to others on message boards or in real life be it today or tomorrow they can speak with authority..give refferences...give numbers..explain the reality knowlwdge is NEVER wasted...and its the ignorence and the walking by of the many that allows suffering..intimidation..cultural issues etc to keep a stranglehold hold on peoples lives there is some thing very wrong when space probes and technology hope to find other worlds yet in our own world there are so many wrongs..wrongs it would cost very little to put right..wrongs that have no place in the 21st century or any century come to that thank you again pumpkin You're welcome! ;D You're 100% right: knowledge is NEVER wasted! If we don't do all we can to CHANGE the world for the better, then we've not only cheated others but also ourselves! We have to TRY! If people willfully ignore information, etc., that's tragic, but at least we know we DID ALL WE COULD to get them information, you know? Yes, I agree about how many evils are in the world that have simple solutions! It's very sad and frustrating. But, I say keep on working, informing, etc., and never give up also! ;D The truth is message boards aren't JUST for debating. They provide very needed information, give people support, etc. ;D

I haven't seen any posts where members have shown any delight over FGM.
On the other hand, I HAVE seen a few where it is mistakenly presented as being a Muslim problem when in fact:
1 The MAJORITY of Muslims do NOT practise FGM
2 The MAJORITY of Muslims do NOT support FGM
3 The MAJORITY of those who DO practise FGM are NOT Muslims
As such, sadly, once again a thread on an important topic is in danger of being moved to Vendetta.
Let me briefly say how I feel.
I am a passionate person with strong opinions.
I love debate and it would be incredibly boring if we all agreed on everything.
I hate FGM and think it's a disgusting practice.
I ALSO think that MALE circumcision (except when there's a medical reason for it) is barbaric and should NOT be inflicted on boys.
Speaking from personal experience, it make NO difference to a woman whether or not the man is circumcised (though it makes ALL the difference if he is just concerned with his own gratification or whether he wants to give her pleasure as well.)
Like I said, I'm very disillusioned right now and thinking about turning the board over to someone else.
Please do NOT attack the POSTER; attack the POST.
I'm about the most laid-back and easy-going board owner I know but I've getting to the end of my tether with all the aggro.
