For all that he was a Republican, failed to control McMarthy and actually gave little impression of controlling anything, Eisenhower was no fool. He it was that warned America and the world that the real threat was never the Soviets but their own Military-industrial complex.

Eisenhower was a conscious agent of and enthusiastic supporter of Communism.
He pulled troops out of Korea; he sabotaged the Suez invasion of Egypt by Britain, France and Israel; he refused to support the East Germans when they rose up in 1953 and the Hungarians when they tried to revolt in 1956; and he specifically said how much he hated the Republican Party and how sympathetic he was to Communist ideals.
He was the first Communist to be President of the US; Nixon was the second.
Clinton was the first Fascist.

June, I think I misread your post and replied to das. mea culpa. The thing about funny-Sarah makes sense from you. lol I guess she does seem like a joke to those of you who dont' see the sensible conservatives knuckling under to her influence in their party because she is adored by their "base" (and a base base it is). Dick Cavett was on some interview show or other this past week and said Palin did not have a first language. That one could clip any four or five of her sentences from one context and insert them into another and no one would notice any change at all. (paraphrase) Here's a mini-rant I like /snip Criticism has its place, of course. And yet, on Palin I've come to favor a different approach—one that refuses to collude with the media-driven farce. To respond to an opponent, even harshly, even rudely, is to accord her a certain respect—to treat her as worthy of a response. But Palin is worthy of no such thing. She stands for nothing beyond her own self-promotion. She craves attention, and negative attention is a form of attention. Even ridicule can be a form of flattery. Better to bow out, to decline the provocation, since responding to her perpetuates and legitimates the illusion that she’s a serious player in our nation’s politics. I, for one, refuse to play that silly little game. And I wish more of her critics felt the same way. Instead of wasting their analytical and polemical talents on the topic, they could work to change the subject to something more substantive and deny Palin what she most greedily craves: the spotlight. /snip www.tnr.com/blog/damon-linker/the-virtue-shutting I am a centrist Democrat who used to be an independent until Bush and Cheney showed me the error of my ways. Nevertheless, I believe in a 2 (or more) party system, and it distresses me to see the Palin movement bury anything remaining that is good about the GOP. The rise of the mundane is a scary time in our history. The people who unleashed this woman to woo the mentally challenged need to rein her back in. jmo

Nice post beth
palin is a joke over here, I guess we don't feel her influence on your politics. I guess we just presume she will fall away to comedy notoriety. Although I was listening to a report on her on radio 4 yesterday from a BBC USA correspondant-he too was suggesting she is garnering support to the detriment of the republican party.
I'll watch her with interest!

"He pulled troops out of Korea"
Thankfully true.
"he sabotaged the Suez invasion of Egypt by Britain, France and Israel."
Those three were in the wrong.
"he refused to support the East Germans when they rose up in 1953 and the Hungarians when they tried to revolt in 1956; and he specifically said how much he hated the Republican Party and how sympathetic he was to Communist ideals."
Regretfully true, and same with LBJ in 1968 when the Prague Spring was crushed. This more than anything proved how weak the Warsaw Pact was and how it was doomed to fail at the onset. Military responses were discussed and discarded. NATO could only offer a haven for refugees and some propaganda.
He did defend Taiwan, but that was mostly show.

I'm not a Sarah Palin fan. My favorite politician is Newt Gingrich. He's real smart and a visionary. The Democrats don't have anyone remotely close to his league in terms of intellect, vision, or plans.

Nasty, hate filled little video, from nasty, hate filled little people. Republicans are sub human little scumbags as this video shows them up for the scum they are. RV, I am NOT an Obama fan but it's a complete LIE to make out that he is a Muslim. Secondly, I have Muslim friends and the overwhelming majority of Muslims are NOT suicide bombers or even sympathisers with terrorists. Thirdly, Republicans are as individual as Democrats or any other political persuasion. There are good and bad people in both parties. Bill Clinton was one of the most evil men ever to occupy the White House. Ronald Reagan - the best friend terrorists ever had! - was another. I don't automatically assume that just because someone has different political views from me that they must be evil. Dear RV, as one of my great heroes once said, 'consider it possible that you may be wrong.'

Incidentally, I'm posting the YouTube interview with Newt Gingrich and Ali G in which he shows himself up as a dishonest, evil, talentless poseur (yes, and Newt too!)
If Newt Gingrich is smart, a visionary, and an intellectual then God help the Republican Party!

Lin - I like Newt and do think he's a smart man. What is there to disagree with in that video?
Here is another more serious video that I think is just outstanding.
In an ideal world, America would be 100% Republican and 0% Democrat. We're unlikely to achieve that ideal but let's take the country back.

Quote: In an ideal world, America would be 100% Republican and 0% Democrat. We're unlikely to achieve that ideal but let's take the country back. Well das, since you obviously do not believe in democracy, what form of government would you prefer Newt lead? I'll bet he could easily see himself as a compassionate dictator.

Nasty, hate filled little video, from nasty, hate filled little people. Republicans are sub human little scumbags as this video shows them up for the scum they are. Which puts them on a par with the author of this hate filled and rather nasty posting. If you cannot see that while a few who support the republican cause might deserve SOME censure, the vast majority are ordinary Americans going about their business, then you are beyond the pale. Calm reasoning is not your strong-point, is it?

i dont see how any thing equates to obama being a muslim.....so he overly bowed to the saudi king but that doesnt make him a muslim it makes him naive and rather silly....and certainly puts him on the back step...but it doesnt make him a follower of islam

In the first place, the last THREE Presidential elections have been contested as stolen so you might as well argue that the supporters of Gore and Kerry don't accept results. Secondly, in polls, particularly highly selective ones and ones where many people have a tendency to wind up or shock the pollsters, you'll always get stupid answers. Thirdly, there are plenty of DEMOCRATS who doubt the theory of evolution so that's a charge that cuts BOTH ways. Fourthly, the majority of Republicans do NOT believe that Obama is not American. Finally, there are just as many nutters and fakes in the Democrats as there are in the Republican movement. Millions of people vote for both parties and of course you have loopers. As far as Obama being the Antichrist is concerned, of course, that only shows that the clowns claiming it haven't read their Bible! It specifically says in the Good Book that there will be MANY Antichrists. For what it's worth, Bill Gates adds up to 666 and Microsoft has certainly got the 'mark of the beast' on computers. Mike Huckabee also adds up to 666 and he's been claimed with a lot of justification as being the Antichrist. So has Sarah Palin. It's just a game some people like playing, RV! Get over it! To PROVE your claim about Republicans you'd have to show that ALL or at least around 90% of them felt as you say they do. Do you realise that 25% of born-again Christians voted for Obama in 2008? Have you any idea how many people switched parties from the Republicans to the Democrats? The fact is that there ARE a small but hard core of lunatics in the Republican Party; just as there are in the Democrats. Have you ever heard Al Sharpton ranting, for example? You claim to be so focused on the scientific method in other areas; why do you leave your scientific principles at the door when it comes to politics? There simply ARE good Republican and good Democrats just as there are BAD people in both parties. As Jim would say, 'that's simple reality!'

The ironic thing, RV, is that for a man who clashes so frequently with Jumbo, you and he are like mirror images of each other - arrogant, dogmatic, often tactless, but both highly intelligent and basically very lovable people!

There simply ARE good Republican and good Democrats just as there are BAD people in both parties. Yes, but by Far the biggest loopers are in the Republicans. Two thirds of which don't believe in evolution, which is more than half, whereas that number is lower in Democrats. Half of Republicans either don't believe or are 'not sure' whether or not Obama is Americans and the same number think he is a Muslim. Republicans have shown pitctures depicting Obama as either a Muslim or Hitler (what is it with republicans and Hitler BTW). They are a nasty bunch of people, Lin.

I'd say you ought to actually talk to a few Americans, RV. If it comes to that I watched both party conferences during the nomination AND victory/concession speeches and overall the general level of ignorance, stupidity and bigotry seemed HIGHER from the Democrats. It's just NOT true that two-thirds of Republicans don't believe in evolution. It's also NOT true that half of Republicans either don't know or aren't sure about Obama's citizenship or religious beliefs. The trouble is, RV, which may not have dawned on you yet, but the simple truth, as a great man once said in the 1970s: 'My God, the left wing is as robotic as the right.'
