Police said 15-year-old Misty Renee Kornegay, also known as Ariel, used her parents' handgun to shoot Damien Kornegay, 16, at their home in Florida, US. Officers confirmed her sister, Nicole Kornegay, "assisted" her in the killing, although they did not elaborate on the younger girl's role. According to Columbia County Sheriff's spokesman, Murray Smith, the investigation began on Monday night. Police in the small town of White Springs learned the girls had run away from home and tracked them down after they were spotted at a local Dollar General store. The siblings told officers about "a shooting at their residence," said Mr Smith. On arrival at the Kornegay family home, Sheriff's Office Deputies found Damien's dead body sprawled out on the living room floor. He had been shot once, they said. Columbia County Sheriff's OfficeMisty and Keith KornegayNeglect: Parents Misty and Keith Kornegay have been charged with failing to supervise their children Mr Smith said: "Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed that earlier in the evening the 15-year-old sister of the deceased retrieved a handgun from their parents' bedroom and used it to shoot her brother. He would only confirm that Nicole Kornegay had "assisted" in the killing, reports News 4 Jax. According to reports Stateside, Ariel Kornegay told police that her brother had beaten her in the hours leading up to the shooting, but officers have yet to comment on motive. The girls' parents, Keith Kornegay, 37, and Misty Kornegay, 33, were reportedly out of town at the time of the incident. They face charges of child neglect. Another three-year-old child, who was found home alone in the property, is being cared for by the Florida Department of Children and Families, Mr Smith said. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter said: "Anytime you come on scene with something this horrific, where you have juveniles or children involved, it's pretty unsettling, even to seasoned law enforcement and deputies. "This is a very unusual event for us here in the community - very tragic." Ariel and Nicole Kornegay are being held without bond in the Columbia County Detention Facility. They are expected to appear in court today.

They did however commit the crime so I guess that will be the price that they will have to pay. I do hope that they come to realise the error of their ways. It may not bring their brother back but they might be able to live a reasonably fruitful life, that will benefit mankind.

The 15 year old knew better and should be tried as an adult.

This is of course the problem of having guns in the house, it's counter productive. I think I read somewhere you are most likely to be killed by your own gun, which kind of makes sense.
Indeed the person most likely to shoot you is yourself!!

You ofcourse know that a person is not classed as an adult until they reach the age of maturity, and that is when they are 18 yrs old.

I was still immature at 17yrs old We don't know the circumstances of the case. He perhaps treated them cruelly. Who knows? I think you have to be in another person's shoes before you can judge.

I would have thought then that the gun should have been kept in some secure place inaccessible to children. I don't know how they deal with guns in the USA though, I have seen videos of fathers teaching their young daughters to shoot. So I don't know what the law is ie do they have to be supervised by an adult when shooting? Letting young children and teenagers have access to guns is a recipe for disaster, indeed it is bad enough when adults have them!

Hi Blc, when you are immature in your thinking it means you don't know all the ramifications of life. The 15yr old girl would not have been aware of the seriousness of her crime and what would ensue as a result. Plus the pain that it would cause her parents in losing their son. She was just reacting to the situation between her brother and herself. I personally think that many crimes are committed because of spontaneous emotion. I have always analysed a situation before I make a move. I don't think I have ever experienced rage, I'm always too busy analysing the logistics of situations.

I think it is fair to say the more knowledge you have and the more you analyse something the less prone to rage you are. Often when you have all the facts thing are a lot easier to understand. Anyway here are some more details So it seems the children a had a troubled up bringing to say the least. Keeping a girl imprisoned in her room cannot the right and it seems she snapped when her brother locked her in again. A tragic case all round.

stalk there victim over weeks and months
going through there dustbins
following them where ever they
listening into conversations with planted bugs and trackers
some do it by accident while meerly raping the victim and it goes to far
jack the ripper used to disembowel the victims
sweeny todd used to slit there throats and sell the bodies for food
some plan it just and pick a victim at random for the crack
there are professional killers that are for hire
allsorts of sinarios happen

It is a very sad state of affairs indeed Kronks, if I had my way, a married couple should have classes on how to raise their children before they are allowed to have any. Maybe then, the world would be a better place in which to live.

You seem to love raking up the past, of people guilty of the worst aspects of mankind, that of murder and sadism. Some of the behaviour of these men may' rub off' on you, which is perhaps, why you seem to focus your attention on crudeness. just saying!!!

Yes they dug up the past but there are plenty of examples of horrendous crimes that have been committed more recently, like Gacey and Dahmler.

Hi Gibby, even a fool would know how to breast feed, change a nappy etc. I mean the psychological aspects of bringing up a child, all the different phases that a child goes through as it grows. and how the parents react to these phases. A few pointers certainly wouldn't go astray.
