After seeing the shocker film "Paranormal Activity", which I consider the scariest film I ever saw I have a negative feeling about the thread title. There are some things that we should NEVER build a bridge towards or contact in any form.
I do believe that there are certain senses that are beyond the physical senses, but I'd prefer to refer to this as ESP, etc.. Hi Anna, we in ECKANKAR do not become involved in anything of that nature. I certainly have never experienced anything in a similar vein. We commune with the Holy Spirit, so we are protected at all times from any adverse experiences, whether it is worldly or from any entity from a lower dimension trying to cause trouble. That is why it is important not to dwell on thoughts of a negative nature. Just as the saying 'you are what you eat' is true, you are also what you think. So if you are always thinking negatively, you will attract more negativity to yourself, and that is when you open yourself to the kind of supernatural happenings that are depicted in these kinds of movies that you mentioned.

Hi Big Lin, Is your forum on Global ProBoards? I have a forum on ProBoards as well, so I am an Administrator also. I have inadvertantly posted the same message twice. I tried to delete the extra post but couldn't. Would you like to door for me? I was replying to Anna's post.

I used to be an active member ing Eckankar and made it up to the 3rd initiation. I joined at a very young age. I got caught up in some emotional matters and became inactive, but I still do the contemplation exercises on occaison.

Hi Anna, that is wonderful!!! I am a 4th Initiate, waiting for the pink slip that will give me the opportunity to reach the Soul plane permanently. I hope I make it before it is time for me to translate, then I won't have to come back to this plane again unless I am given a special mission by the Mahanta.
I have met the Mahanta so many times and he is always smiling from ear to ear as he shakes my hand. It really is an honour. Baraka Bashad.

Hi Anna, I have never met the Mahanta in the physical, but in the inner dimensions. One time I found myself sitting at a round table with others and the Mahanta was the waiter serving food. Which ofcourse is the discourses that we are sent each year and his Words of Wisdom from the various books that he writes. He certainly is a prolific writer for sure.
Another time I found myself on a ship going to America and I was welcomed by the Captain of the ship. Who ofcourse was no other than the Mahanta himself. It is amazing the different roles that he plays, so that we get the message loud and clear.
We are being taught all the time, so are not forgotten. He cares about us as he always has our best interests at heart. The Mahanta is a tireless worker, without a doubt. Baraka Bashad.

I still do the contemplation at times, but rarely anywhere near the 30 minutes. After some emotional turbulance I became inactive with Eckankar.
I visited the Eckankar center in Stuttgart a few times.

Hi Anna, I have photos of all the Masters, plus the Temple at Chanhassen in my IPhone album plus stories of members having meetings with the different Masters long before they even knew about ECKANKAR. I love Reading the stories because it tells of all the miracles that are still taking place. Baraka Bashad.

It's not the same thing at all. And in any case I wouldn't argue that my personal experience was enough to make vast generalisations about life as a whole. Sure, we tend to speak from our own life experience but opinion and belief are NOT the same as fact. And history shows that people who can't tell the difference cause most of the problems in the world. Humility and an open mind are the best answer. I don't necessarily go along with Krishnamurti but at least his approach is IMO a healthy one - not to make assumptions about certainty. Hi Biglin, Imagination is different from awareness. I am trying to point out that when Soul leaves the body and has experiences in another dimension that is a fact, therfore you are aware and if you are aware then you are SURE that what you are experiencing is real. It is not your imagination . Even though you might consider my statements as being dogmatic they are not!!! I know the difference between fact and imagination. To put your mind at rest, I can assure you I am not ever gioing to harm another person or disobey the law. I am a peace loving person and would in no way jeopardize mr relationship with God. You don't KNOW that soul DOES leave the body. You BELIEVE that it does. I've had experiences that make me think it probably does but certainty, knowledge, facts, whatever are NOT the same as belief or opinion. It's NOT a FACT that soul leaves the body; it's an opinion and even thought it's one I share I don't believe confusing knowledge and opinion is ever a good idea.

Hi Big Lin, We in ECKANKAR reach a stage that you just know. It is a truth. The awareness that you have when you awake in the morning is the same awareness that I experience when I as Soul, have left the body and am travelling.
I came home from shopping and unlocked the front door, the minute that I did that, I knew that someone had been in my house. As my son has a key I rang him to see if he had visited and sure enough, he had let himself in whilst I was out. How did I know that?
When I am Soul travelling, I have left the physical body and I am as aware of that, as I am aware of waking up in the morning. Soul is a unit of awareness, so the experience is real and therefore a fact.
Soul can go back in time and travel to any dimension that it is aware of, also any place in this physical world. I have visited Tibet during an out of the body experience and found myself looking down on the Alps.
The scene that I saw stayed in my mind. Then later on I received a picture of the same scene, which proved that I had actually been there. I have never been to Tibet physically and I have never seen that scene before until I found myself high above the Alps looking down on that particular scene.
There is no way that you will ever get me to believe that my experiences as Soul is not a fact and therefore a truth. You may still perceive me as being dogmatic, if so, there is nothing I can do about that, to each his/ her own.

I'm denying your INTERPRETATION of those experiences. You're interpreting them in line with your Eckanckar philosophy; I interpret them in line with my liberal Protestant Christianity; my husband interprets them in line with his secular and agnostic beliefs. But a belief is NOT a fact and an experience isn't necessarily real. Now if you drink or take psychedelic drugs you can see all kinds of different stuff from normal reality. I'll give you three contrasting examples of events showing how hard it is to define reality. 1) Travis Walton claimed to have been abducted by aliens. He was with a group of other people and NONE of them saw anything happen. Was Walton lying? Fantasising? Or what? 2) Armando Valdes of the Chilean army literally vanished into thin air in front of six fellow soldiers. He was gone for fifteen minutes and when he returned the calendar on his watch had gone forward five days and he had a five-day growth of beard. What happened? 3) At Fatima in Portugal thousands of people - religious believers and atheists - saw what appeared to be the Sun dipping towards Earth. Even the atheists gave an identical description of their experience and didn't try to deny it had happened. But of course they interpreted it very differently from the religious believers. See what I mean?

Hi Big Lin, the first two people that you mentioned I believe have had a real experience, so it is a fact as far as I am concerned. I can't comment on the other experience.
When it all boils down, going to the corner shop then, is only an opinion, even though it seems real to you, your mind can be playing tricks. You could even be dreaming?
If I have seen a particular place that I have never been to physically and I am aware that I am there, that is not an opinion but a fact. And please don't try to imply that I'm being brainwashed by ECKANKAR. I had these experiences long before I knew about ECKANKAR.
