Are you addicted to Sarah Palin? from The Guardian: It's journalism at its most post-modern: a writer for the Washington Post, concerned at the number of articles he has written about Sarah Palin, writes another article explaining how he's going to have a month-long moratorium from writing articles about Sarah Palin.
Dana Milbank, a politics columnist for the Washington Post, announced on Friday that he was declaring February to be a Sarah Palin-free zone. After admitting "I can no longer hide the truth. I have a Sarah Palin problem," Milbank writes:
I hereby pledge that, beginning on Feb 1, 2011, I will not mention Sarah Palin - in print, online or on television - for one month. Furthermore, I call on others in the news media to join me in this pledge of a Palin-free February. With enough support, I believe we may even be able to extend the moratorium beyond one month, but we are up against a powerful compulsion, and we must take this struggle day by day.
Pointing out that the Huffington Post managed to mention Palin in 19 separate articles in a single day last week, Milbank even set up an automated Twitter generator for those joining his self-censorship crusade.
Bravely disregarding the dangers of self-parody, CNN leaped into the fray: "Has the media grown tired of the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee? We asked Ari Melber, a correspondent for The Nation, and Steve Kornacki of Salon.com."I think a month without Palin quotes would be dull! I can't stand her politics, and I can't stand her self-righteous, patronising, and simpleton manner, but as a public figure she's value for money. I'm addicted.

I like Ann. She articulates the political situation in America better than anyone. She has the Democrats in clear focus. They hate her because she has their number.

She says viciously outrageous statements to gain publicity and then cries her freedom of speech is being curtailed when she is pulled up on it.
She's pointless.
Plus she looks like a waxwork! ;D

June - I'm sorry but I don't think you're being fair. Ann is an outstanding journalist and her articles are accurate.

Ann is right to defend Palin from the post-shooting attacks. That was all just a bit OTT and.... odd. And Palin was put in a ridiculous position, where silence or speech both meant guilt of some kind. Otherwise, Ann is a scary person. She's well suited to journalism. Strong - even slightly mad - opinions are always a good read. Sometimes people mistake those opinions as fact, mistake a strongly argued case as a solid case, mistake pleasing rhetoric for good policy; it's then that people such as Ann cause problems. I mean to say, Palin as Fox News commentator... genius! But as President of the USA...what are they thinking?! Ann as Secretary of State? Phoenix Jones for Vice-President!

I think trying to blame anyone for that shooting other than the shooter was ridiculous and only inciting more of the hatred that they were complaining about. I also agree Palin as a commentator....is a good move......but running the country.......nope....way too scary!

You know I really don't have a response to that one.......nut jobs love to post outrageous stuff on websites that they know are getting a lot of exposure....to cause even more problems. You know reporters were sitting on that website looking to see what posts were going up....so even if they got that one down very quickly.....it would still get out in the news. There is just no way anyone thinks that about that little girl and it was put up just to cause more hatred.

Jumbo - there are a lot of nutjobs in America's government and journalism. But they're not the ones you've mentioned. The really nutty ones have names like Pelosi, Olbermann, Maddow, Boxer, Schumer, Jerry Brown, Al Gore, etc.

Jumbo - Are you saying that you consider yourself aligned and in agreement with the likes of Pelosi, Olbermann, Maddow, Boxer, Schumer, Jerry Brown, Al Gore, etc.
I certainly hope not. I had you figured for being much more intelligent than that.
