I listened to this doing homework today: My baby she can scream and shout My baby she can move it out My baby she can take a chance My baby got a brand new dance Another part of song: Well, it's a brand new dance Yeah been sweepin' the nation I said a brand new dance A rock 'n' roll sensation Yeah I like it baby, I do it every night I got to do it 'cos I like it so much Oh honey believe it baby You see it's a crazed gyration of the rock generation It's my motivation to avoid the nauseation, frustration When I need some lubrication - Baby! hmmm . . as far as I know, I've never heard this song so am hopeless at trying a guess. Hint: this song is by a rocker who loves to hunt. ;D

Linda Ronstadt WAS the one who had the affair with Jerry Brown.
The correct answer is the FAR more talented singer-songwriter Linda Hargrove, and the song is called 'New York City Song.'
I actually prefer the verses to the chorus, especially the verse:
'The day I walked down New York City Avenue downtown I never seen so many people hurrying around; I tried to smile but they just looked as if to say the smiling's wrong: No, I don't know no New York City song.'

Her best known song was 'Couples' which was a big hit for Kris Kristofferson. www.lindahargrove.com/

Sorry, I'm new to this game... Laura, I think our rules are kind of trial and error at this point. If it helps, I usually leave lyrics up a few days and if no one guesses, just retire it with the answer. Sometimes things we think will be very easy are really hard to others. From what I've noticed so far, classics seem to be easier than music from any particular genre. IOW, give the answer when you think enough time has passed to give those who play a fair shot.

Here's a video of a live performance. Couldn't find "New York City Song". She seems more western than country to me.

Many's the time I've been mistaken And many times confused Yes, and I've often felt forsaken And certainly misused Oh, but I'm all right, I'm all right I'm just weary to my bones Still, you don't expect to be Bright and bon vivant So far away from home, so far away from home

(ahem) I think we have ground down to a stop. This one is Paul Simon's American Tune. Very clever lyrics.

Next A long, long time ago... I can still remember How that music used to make me smile. And I knew if I had my chance That I could make those people dance And, maybe, they'd be happy for a while.
But february made me shiver With every paper I'd deliver. Bad news on the doorstep; I couldn't take one more step.

And I can't remember if I cried When I read about his widowed bride But something somethinged me deep inside The day the music died . . . So bye bye Miss AMERICAN PIE The song is American Pie and I claim my reward. Don McLean

If this is the Feb. contest, we have a few more days to break the tie. Someone other than riotgirl, trubble or myself needs to post some lyrics. Thanks I listened to this doing homework today: My baby she can scream and shout My baby she can move it out My baby she can take a chance My baby got a brand new dance Another part of song: Well, it's a brand new dance Yeah been sweepin' the nation I said a brand new dance A rock 'n' roll sensation Yeah I like it baby, I do it every night I got to do it 'cos I like it so much Oh honey believe it baby You see it's a crazed gyration of the rock generation It's my motivation to avoid the nauseation, frustration When I need some lubrication - Baby! Anyone have an idea on this 1 before I say what it is? Drewsmom got that it's by Ted Nugent.
