I used to love a bitch, until she died (as dogs do). I can't use it as a term of abuse. It is not that, to me. When I hear the word, I think of her. I'm very fond of my dog. But I think my OH wuld be justifiably upset if I described him as one. How about: "You old dog, you"?

I was raised believing that people that were racist or were prejudice wasn't my problem......it was theirs. My parents are from Mexico but I was born in the US. I have very light skin and light hair. Used to get in fights when I was little when people would tell me I wasn't Mexican. But since I don't look Mexican I have always been amazed at what people will say around me. I just think they are idiots and cutting themselves off from a vast array of people that they know nothing about.
There is not a perfect race of anything. People are people. There will be good and bad in every bunch.
It's up to me what I get upset about......and words are just words.......the only power they have are the power we choose to give them.

N****r is not a word I use, and not a word that I would have used in my company, be the speaker black, white or pink with green spots.
It's not a word that anyone with any class uses.
Anyone using it in my home would be asked to leave.
I'm not really interested in anyone justifying why they think it's ok for them to use it. There are no excuses for it.

I agree riotgrrl.......I think it's an ugly word also. But I agree with the argument that you can't expect to use it yourself.....sing it in songs, use it in conversation and then turn around and be mad if someone else uses it. Either stop using it or admit the word has no power.

And I think black people who have class don't hold with them either.

Here's another n-word debate video. I think some Blacks must be seriously struggling with their self image, if they're so offended and shaken by this insignificant Latin word. Anyone who doesn't agree can call me a "honky tonk" or the "n-word" for that matter! But Anna, how would you feel about being called a Kraut or a Jerry, for instance? I know French people hate being called frogs, Italians being called wops, Spanish people dagos, and I don't like being called a gypsy either. Basically racial insults are (apart from anything else) being bad mannered. No one can choose what gender or ethnic group they're born into. An accident of birth is NOT a good reason to abuse people! Dearest Lin! I couldn't care less, if someone used those words towards me. We have to get beyond this hypersensitivity! I agree it can be bad manners, but i don't support a PC manners police! I did notice in Northern Ireland that there was also a certain hypersensitvity on both sides of this conflict, but it's time to grow up and walk away from that nonsense. There's no point in having a vulnerable self image and living in events that occured before most people were born. Some German jokes are funny too! The English and Irish constantly make jokes about each other too! Big deal!

What a shame.... All the good advice she's given people over the years, and she gets pretty much driven out of her show over nonsense! Dr. Laura to end her radio show By the CNN Wire Staff August 17, 2010 10:04 p.m. EDT Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Embattled radio talk show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger announced Tuesday she will not renew her contract that is up at the end of the year, telling CNN's "Larry King Live" she wants to "regain my First Amendment rights." Schlessinger, 63, has been under fire for using the n-word repeatedly during an on-air conversation with a caller last week. In announcing her decision "not to do radio anymore" after being in the business for more than 30 years, Schlessinger said, "I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry or some special-interest group deciding this is a time to silence a voice of dissent." National furor erupted when Schlessinger used the n-word 11 times in five minutes during a call August 10 with an African-American caller who was seeking advice on how to deal with racist comments from her white husband's friends and relatives. The conversation evolved into a discussion on whether it's appropriate to ever use the word, with Schlessinger arguing it's used on HBO and by black comedians. Schlessinger apologized the following day, saying "I was attempting to make a philosophical point, and I articulated the n-word all the way out -- more than one time. And that was wrong. I'll say it again -- that was wrong." While Schlessinger told King on Tuesday that she was still "regretful" over the incident, she said she feels her freedom of speech rights "have been usurped by angry, hateful groups who don't want to debate -- they want to eliminate." "I decided it was time to move on to other venues where I could say my peace and not have to live in fear anymore," she said. Schlessinger plans to expand her internet presence with her website. "I'm not retiring. I'm not quitting," she said. "I feel energized actually, stronger and freer to say the things that I believe need to be said for people in this country." www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/celebrit....aura.ends.show/

Hi Pumpkinpie! It's a pity that Dr. Laura is stopping her radio show! I found it very inspirating at times! The dumbed down f and n word rap noise that AFN has replaced her show with is really a waste of time at best. Dr. Dobson's "Focus on the Family" was taken down here too.
I'll be keeping an eye on Dr. Laura's website: www.drlaura.com/

And white folk have little black jockys (as seen in the Video for Outkast's "Hey Ya" and any number of Frank Zappa songs).
Divine had pink Flamingos on her lawn in the film "Pink Flamingos."

I certainly plead guilty to not knowing what it's like to grow up as a Black, so i don't have any "1st person sensitivity" here! Please pardon this naive honky tonk-me!
Since the n-word is causing so much outcry maybe we should take a look at the orgins of this word. The article that i quoted below also presents the opinion that mean spirited honkey tonks coined the n-word to humilate Blacks, but i think the Latin orgin is more believable and likely. The Spanish word for Black "Negro" is also considered demeaning so I'll stick to "African descent". news.minnesota.publicradio.org/features/2004/06/28_williamsb_nword/ QUOTE: In researching this story, I looked for the origins of 'n-word.' Some scholars say 'n-word' was derived from the Latin word for the color black which is spelled 'n-i-g-e-r.'
