to me this is a simple point of not only law but a country's right to behave as they see fit within their own 'constitution'.
Predicting death from a terminal illness is very difficult - and to me it seems as if the USA are pissed that the poor chap hasn't succumbed quickly enough! Are the USA trying to get up the noses of every other country in the world on purpose? Or is there nothing they wont pop their sticky beaks into?
Scotland was 100% right to follow their own law and I am pleased they won't wilt under bully boy tactics.

Random Voice - If you have opinions about Muslims then I would suggest that you spell them out here in detail.
I can't wait to be enlightened.

OK June. You have a point. RV should spell them out in another thread where we're discussing Muslims. I would suggest he do it in the thread titled "Islamization of Europe" which I think is perhaps the most interesting and revealing thread on this board since I've been a member.

A thread about Scots' law and you want to drag MUSLIMS into it? You people must hate this board so much as to want to destroy it. Perfectly good debate on Scot' s law being trashed when people from a backward culture who are unable to understand anything other than hate have managed to piss on another thread. Well done. Well played you and the rest of the ingorant fuckwits that infest this board have managed to DESTROY YET ANOTHER FORUM. PLEASE LIN, IN THE NAME OF THIS BOARD, PLEASE PUT THESE MUSLIM THREADS INTO A PASSWORD PROTECTED AREA WHERE THE MORONS CAN PLAY TO THEIR HEART'S CONTENT. THEY ARE DESTROYING THIS BOARD. LOOK AT THE LAST FIFTY POSTS. THE SAME FOUR OR FIVE PEOPLE ARE POSTING HOW MUCH THEY AGREE WITH EACH OTHER. THE BOARD IS DYING ON ITS FEET!!!! WHY ARE YOU ALLOWING THIS TO CONTINUE? RIOTGRRL HAS NOTICED THIS, WHY CAN'T YOU!!!!!!!

And on the subject of the release of Magrahi, there is plenty of evidence, from the statements of the Libyan leadership, the greasing of Gadaffi by Blair et al, and the coinciding of oil exploration rights with said release, that it was a political decision to enable us to get at Libyan oil. This is exactly the type of thing I am talking about. It would be 'helpful' for you if there was a single piece of evidence that this decision was based on anything other than medical evidence, but alas, as per usual your sad little fantasies are nothing more than daydreams. This decision was taken precisely own medical evidence and nothing to do with Blair, BY or anyone else. Kenny MacAskill made his decision based on entirely on the medical evidence and the relevant Scots’ Law on the subject If you demand concrete evidence; a smoking gun, then in the world of government chicanery and trade deals, you will hardly expect to find it. On the other hand, if something swims, has feathers, and quacks a lot, it is not unreasonable to assume that it is a duck. Take the following time line, and see if you can spot any coincidences. August, 2002: First official contact as UK foreign office minister Mike O'Brien meets Colonel Muammar al-Gadaffi in Libya – the first British ministerial trip to the country since the 1984 shooting of WPC Yvonne Fletcher outside the Libyan embassy in London. 25 March, 2004: Prime Minister Tony Blair goes to Libya for historic meeting in the desert with Col Gadaffi. Mr Blair indicates that the talks opened new prospects of co-operation. First of many meetings over the next three years involving British, Libyan and oil company officials. 29 May, 2007: BP announces a £545 million deal to prospect for oil in Libya. It is unratified, and BP encounters ongoing obstruction and obfuscation from the Libyans authorities. 30 May, 2007: Mr Blair returns to Libya for meeting with Col Gadaffi at which they signed a "memorandum of understanding" covering defence, tourism, economic and financial development and health – all areas where British business could benefit. 4 November 2007: The Duke of York makes his first official trip to Libya, in part to negotiate opening a Libyan sovereign fund office in London. 26 July, 2007: Jack Straw, recently appointed Justice Secretary, sends a letter to Kenny MacAskill, in which he said he would EXCLUDE Megrahi from any prisoner transfer scheme between Britain and Libya. 19 December, 2007: Mr Straw sends a second letter to Mr MacAskill stating that on the grounds of "the overwhelming interests for the UK" he would now not resist the inclusion of Megrahi in any prisoner transfer scheme. A Damascene conversion, one might suppose. 29 January, 2008: BP deal with Libya is ratified. 1 May, 2009: Prisoner transfer agreement finalised, leading to application from Libya for Megrahi to be moved. 20 August, 2009: Megrahi released by Scottish Government on compassionate grounds. To me, that represents a lot of feathers, an excellent swimming action, and a lot of quacking!

To me, that represents a lot of feathers, an excellent swimming action, and a lot of quacking! But only if you are willing to contort the above list ito something other than it is. Nothing there that that is in dispute, but the fact remains. The man had terminal cancer, Ned, no-one disputes that either he was judged to have three months to live. You could argue that was far too pesimestic, but that prognosis was entirely within the established medical casebook. Given that the only other alternative was removing him to a hospice for the last months of his life with the extra costs that would incur, including the distruption to other paitents, (they too would be dying of cancer), what real, feasible option did Kenny MacAskill have than to send him home to die?

Well, a year later and, surprise surprise, he is still very much alive. And if you were to do a little research into the "advice" that Kenny relied upon to release Magrahi, you would find that out of four doctors who examined him, only ONE was willing to give the magical "three months to live" prognosis that enabled him to be released under Scottish law. And the Scots have refused to name this "doctor", who was supplied (again surprise surprise,) by Libya.
You are really such a simple soul, RV. I bet those Nigerian E mail con-artists really love you!

Well, a year later and, surprise surprise, he is still very much alive. Ned, you are correct in that and perhaps he will live another twenty years, but that does not detract from the fact the orginal prognosis was based on sound medical advice provided by Karol Sikora* a widely acknowledged cancer specialist. If you have evidence that Sikora lied to gain the bombers release, you could share it with us? *There you go, Neddy, I do not speak for the Scottish Government, but I have named him for you.

I understand that both Straw and Blair were slightly surprised when they finally realised that the release of Megrahi was nothing to do with them and they had no say whatsoever on the matter (such were their illusions of power.) The idea that the SNP-led Scottish Government would do anything . . anything at all . . on the grounds that new Labour asked them to or wanted them to is ludicrous.

www.scotland.gov.uk/News/This-Week/Speeches/Safer-and-stronger/lockerbiedecisionHere is the text of Kenny Macaskill's statement made last summer when the guy was released. As is clear, the advice came from the Scottish Prison Service. If you think he's lying, tell me which part you think he's lying about? If not, then I suggest you file away your silly conspiracy theories alongside the Duke of Edinburgh killing Princess Di.

Come on Ned, that is straightforward rubbish. The ‘most advanced’ Nation on Earth? Who are you trying to kid? Americans have banned the teaching of evolution in many places and replaced it with creationism Is this true? I thought there was US caselaw banning the teaching of creationism, at least as a science. Riot, I have read that link you posted, and still feel uneasy that Magrahi withdrew his right to appeal at the same time as getting compassionate release. I understand that many people in America, including families of the victims, have misgivings about his conviction; how are we now to find out the truth?
