tiger woodsJust seen a clip of his mea culpa on telly. Really there are some things one should listen to only when closely accompanied by a sick bag.

Well it is his fault he couldn't be bothered to be discrete and selected women of a rather dubious intent but let's get some perspective!
He plays golf for goodness sake - what on earth does his sex life have to do with that?

He plays golf for goodness sake - what on earth does his sex life have to do with that? absolutely nothing, but playing golf has absolutely nothing to do with the scandal. he's in deep shyt because he put himself up as a family man and role model. the golf is irrelevant

But, what would you have him do - resign from professional golf? Better he should just stand up and say, "OK I did it - my bad - don't intend to do it again." . . . and get on with his life. I'm sure the media can manage to find other stories, and, of course, the public collective memory is notoriously short. Move along . . . there are infinitely more important things to think about.

It's actually quite difficult for these people who are rich and famous and are bound to find themselves surrounded with groupies. Sports stars and pop singers and actors are maybe the ones most at risk- we've had the nonsense about John Terry which has cost him the England captaincy, Ashley Cole's serial adultery and now Tiger Woods.
In a way I feel slightly sorry for these people because temptation will constantly be put in their way and not everyone is strong enough to resist the opportunity.
Tiger's a great golfer; let him get on with playing the game he does so well.
I wish I could play golf one percent as well as he does!

The golf, beth, doesn't really matter anymore. He gained his celebrity status as a wunderkid in Golf and its only a matter of time before the next one comes along. Its what he did with his celebrity status that counts now. He was up there as Mr Clean and he did very nicely out of it too. But it was all a chirade. Celebrity status does not equal suitable role model, in fact 95% of the time it is the exact opposite. The focus on the cult of celebrity seems, to me, to do more harm than good.

Did nobody notice? He is a MAN To me all this is a bit like feigning surprise that the Pope is Catholic. Married person falls for a bit of flattery from elsewhere and has sex outside of marriage - well whoop de do, that's a first.

REAL men put honor above all else

But why expect higher standards from celebrities?

Exactly, Lin. I have to say, I may not exactly have my thumb on the pulse of the general public as a whole, because I'm not particularly concerned with the private lives of celebrities. To me, they stand or fall on whatever it is they do as sports figures or artists or writers - whatever. I usually assume their cause de celebre (on the one hand) or indiscretion of the moment (on the other) is mostly media hype anyway. The only thing they do - off stage - that ticks me off is if they die - worse if they die prematurely or by their on hands. Of course the golf is important. The golf is everything. Without it there's every chance none of us would have ever heard of this man - not to mention his wife and bevy of girlfriends and bedmates. Beyond that, who decided he was "Mr Clean" and a sterling role model? Was that his shtick or a PR/media creation? Furthermore, why would kids be affected by all this muck? Is it because the media has put him in our faces on a neverending melodrama everywhere we turn. I think so. So, why give them the satisfaction of controlling this "news story" (not) when we could cease to care. The only thing that's really been affected so far are Woods' endorsement contracts. It's yet to be seen whether his game will be in jeopardy any more than it has been for the past few years, off and on. I guess I'm with June on this one. Big deal (not). S0 what. yawn

But why expect higher standards from celebrities? the one, and about only, good thing about lindsay lohan, britney spears, and that group is that they are pretty much in your face NOT a good role model, and don't give a shyt what anyone thinks. quite a few celebrities try to hide the fact that they smoke, for example, but this group almost makes a production out of the fact that they smoke, drink, and carry on. in reality, THEY are the best role models, because they're demonstrating the most important trait that someone can have, which is being true to yourself and to hell with what anyone else thinks. i digressed a bit, but, the point is, when you do set yourself up to be something, you have NO right to not be that person. simple honesty, which as you know, is the MOST important thing in the world
