I'll chose my nominee from the 3 honorable mentions above based on the outcome of the Raiders vs Broncos US Football game this Saturday! I haven't even checked who the favorite is. Beth, Chefmate and Random Vioce can choose a team or bet on a draw, which is an unlikely possibility.

Well that leaves me with the Broncos, even though I don't really like American football. To slow too boring too much padding and too many breaks in play.

Try Rugby league for a real sport.

So RV is a Bronco! I'll never understand why the English love sports that can cripple them for life! Rugby can put you in a wheelchair fast and forever! I think all the US football padding is cool-kind of like "Monster Trucks" played by humans. Wow and no protective handgloves for cricket players! The US sports have been imported somewhat to German athletes, but UK sports never get away from the British barracks in Germany!

So our beloved Beth takes the draw possibility! I'm sure RV would really wonder about our "Touch Football" with no tackles. I guess the British fans would be outraged at the idea of touch rugby!

football season is what makes life worth living. just pro? college football is actually better, since they're playing for something worthwhile instead of money

for the record lad, someone nominates me EVERY month on cd. i have nominated anna several times there as well.
the award for member of the month SHOULD go to the individual who has done the most in furtherance of the board, and this month, that happens to be anna.
i NEVER lobby to be nominated, nor campaign when i am. when i have won, i have graciously accepted it as recognition of my contribution to the board. when i have not won, i have NOT pouted. I am cognizant of the fact that i am not the only member on the board

Anna (like Jim and you and many others) is a valued and respected member of the board.

Jim is hardly the type of person to be underhanded. You always know what he thinks and he says what he means and means what he says - one of the many things I like about him.

What are you referring to? You disagree with the one post I've made on this thread and I have a mammoth chip on my shoulder?

H'm. And if I did have one, I'd have lost my shoulder, arm and pretty much all of the side it got me.

But I've still got all of me. So I'm guessing I dodged that. S&V has its charms but in limited supplies.

We have had a few rugby players seriously injured and left in wheelchairs too. That is sad and some of the scrum rules have been changed to take of of the worse danger out of it.

We have seen padding greeping into the game in recent years, but not a change I support. Rubgy is a tough game and if you cannot hack it, you really shouldn't be playing. Too many rule changes for my liking in union.

They change the rules every year. I would elinimate every rule change since about 1983, except 5 for a try.

I'm not at all sure that padding doesn't make things worse. It's not the bruises that are going to cause damage, it's broken bones and necks, and padding doesn't protect against the pressures and twisting likely to cause those. It might instead encourage harder and riskier tackles because the tackler feels protected and that they can't cause much harm to a protected victim either.

In cricket, protection is a different matter. It has always been part of the game to some degree and long overdue for more of it to protect against a rock-hard ball hurtling your way!

Wow what a squeaker! The Raiders win 20 to 19. Had the Broncos made their extra point earlier it would have been a tie in Beth's favor! Had the Broncos defense held off the final desperate Raider offense with only 35 seconds left in the game the Broncos and Random Vioce would have won!
