Here is an active member of Al Queda, a confessed terrorist who wants to kill all infidels, and our liberal judge is going to let him go free in two more years (because we treated poor baby harshly while in confinement. Jeez! Why not the death penalty??? www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,570305,00.html Judge Rejects Call for Long Sentence in Case of Al Qaeda Agent Thursday, October 29, 2009 AP Ali Saleh Kahlah Al-Marri, a native of Qatar, and alleged Al Qaeda sleeper. A judge in Illinois sentenced an admitted Al Qaeda agent Thursday to less than two years in prison in addition to the six years he already has spent behind bars — much less than the 15 years requested by prosecutors. But U.S. District Judge Michael Mihm said he doesn't think former Bradley graduate student Ali al-Marri has renounced the terrorist group and was likely to attack the U.S. if given the chance. But Mihm also said al-Marri deserved credit for the years he'd spent in isolation in the Navy brig. Prosecutors claimed al-Marri told an Air Force psychiatrist all infidels, including Shiite Muslims, should be killed. The Qatar native has admitted training in Al Qaeda camps and having contact with those involved in the Sept. 11 attacks. Al-Marri pleaded guilty in May to conspiring to provide material support or resources to a foreign terrorist organization. The 100-month sentence includes a credit for 71 months already spent behind bars and an additional credit of nine months because of harsh treatment during his incarceration. He appears to be a threat to all of us, not least because he has had a very weird existence for the past few years, and I certainly don't want him out of prison.
He hasn't killed anyone, has he? The death penalty seems over the top - wouldn't he more useful to us all if we could get him to talk about the whys and wherefores and whos etc?
His incarceration story seems crazy - six years in isolation and deprivation without charges is neither justice nor military tactics, it's hostage taking!
If he wasn't somewhat insane before he surely must be by now.
And what's the idea behind depriving him of all reading material except a Qur'an? Wouldn't that serve to make him more militant not less?
You see what added problems can arise from this odd policy of indefinite detainment without charges? Not to mention the ones who had similar sort of treatment and then were set free with no charges. This whole situation is plain daft, I just don't get it.

I suspect it was more intelligence gathering Trubble. He was a smart guy (college grad student) and may have had knowledge.
After 9/11 there was a very high priority placed on information gathering regarding Al Queda. Who were the other members? Who provided direction? What about funding? etc. etc. Anyone with proven connections to Al Queda would have been an important potential source of information. They wouldn't have wanted him mingling with other prisoners in jail or prison. They certainly wouldn't have wanted him to get a liberal lawyer and looney leftist 'rights advocate.' They wanted to find out what he knew and they didn't want him to hold back. I suspect he was in the hands of the CIA or FBI rather than the prison system and for good reason.
