The recent plane crash of Flight 1549 that crashed into New York's Hudson River got me thinking. The passengers all knew that they were going down, and they might not survive. A lot of them prayed.
I saw some interviews on the Today show with survivors where they talked about the moments before they crashed. What would you have done during those moments? Would you have tried to call a loved one by phone? Or would you not wanted to upset him/her because they would've been helpless to help you? Would you have written them a note hoping it would survive the crash? Screamed in terror?
I guess none of us really knows what you would do in those circumstances until we're faced with it. But it got me thinking this morning. I hope I never have to find out.

Pray and write out a quick will if I didn't have a will!

Make my way to the back of the plane and cower in a cowardly way, hoping that the stories I've read about the back of the plane being safest in a crash were true.

since jim don't get on airplanes, he don't have to worry about it. when he used to though, he would have been doing a lot of praying, since that is the ONLY hope you'd have

Hold hands with the person I'm with and let them know I am there. If travelling alone, perhaps do the same with a stranger. Pray? No. Talk to the Universe, yes. Brace and plan for escape, run all scenarios through my mind and practice what to do in each, visualise success.

I would FREAK OUT and panic to the extreme!

I probably would panic, too.
I did learn an important lesson from this plane crash, though. In water landings (when there's survivors), they don't open the rear exits, only the front one. You have a greater chance of getting out of the plane (assuming it's in one piece) if you're near the front of the plane. Who knew?

Who knew? of course, just a little technicality. there's no such thing as a water "landing", except in a seaplane. this was ditching

Scream, scream, scream.
And realise that, if there is a god, there's no point in praying to him. He's made the decision that I'm gonna die. Why on earth should I think that I'll change his mind?
Now, those people on the Hudson River plane. I bet not all of them believe in a god. The ones that do, prayed like mad. The ones that don't, didn't.
Yet they all got saved.
They got saved because they had a good pilot. They got into that situation because of a flock of birds. End of.

There may have been atheists on that plane when it took off, but I bet there were damn few as it was coming down.

Why would they change their beliefs if they realize it was the pilot's skills that brought the plane down safely, not god. 9/11 happened because a few believed god wanted them to fly those planes into buildings and kill thousands of people......so does god save people or not?

I imagine that I would do some yogic breathing stuff, that being what I tend to do when I think I'm about to die for some reason. I don't mind the dying, I just hate the feeling of panic and anxiety.

EVERYONE is a believer when there are .50 caliber shells flying over your head My great-grandfather spent three years on the Western Front during the First World War before being gassed and invalided out. Before the war he was a believer; the war turned him into an atheist. I've known Jews who've said that the Nazi holocaust had the same effect on their faith.
