There is mounting evidence which shows that the crystaline synthetic vitamins that industries produce are inferior to natural vitamins. Studies show that the human body readily absorbs non crystaline natural vitamins found in food, but not crystaline synthetic vitamins.

Vitamin pills and mineral supplements as a rule go by the assumption that the human body can absorb these substances the same way a plant can absorb them from the soil. DAS (formerly BushAdmirer)

I take calcium, magnesium and zinc tablets and if I miss them I get cramps in my legs, so I try not to miss them. They work for me.

Some supplements have even been proven to be harmful. Calcium supplements are often just growned up limestone which a plant can maybe absorb, but not humans. Calcium supplements have been linked to heart problems, hardening of the arteries and other health problems.

My doctor told me not to take calcium pills because they can contribute to formation of kidney stones. Not only are kidney stones painful, they can damage the kidneys.

The mineral water business also promotes the mineral supplement hoax in their water. This seems to be especially bad in Europe, but American businesses are starting to exploit this gimmick too.
The calcium obviously comes largely from limestone. I'm not saying we should only drink distilled water, but I know that if the "calcium" content gets up to 100mg per liter you'll notice that awful limestone taste.
A doctor did once give me a prescription for an iron supplement, which the insurance paid for. I suppose there are supplements that the human body can absorb, but I doubt you'll find them among the low priced supplements in Osco, Walgreen & other drug stores. blc Big Lin DAS (formerly BushAdmirer)

Mike is diabetic so he takes zinc regularly. We also both take plenty of vitamin C both in terms of fresh vegetables and a vitamin C drink.
Like most things in life, vitamins are good in moderation and bad in excess.
