KIAWAH, S.C. — The race for the Republican presidential nomination took an odd turn Wednesday as frontrunner Donald Trump publicly trashed Pope Francis after the pontiff suggested the real estate mogul “is not Christian” because of his pledge to deport undocumented immigrants and build a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico.
“A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian,” Pope Francis said when a reporter asked him about Trump on the papal airliner as he returned to Rome after a nearly weeklong visit to Mexico. Francis is the first Latin American pope in Catholic Church history and came to the Vatican from Argentina. Taking the stage at a rally here, Trump reiterated his Christian faith and called Pope Francis “disgraceful” for questioning it.
“He doesn’t know me,” Trump told a somewhat stunned crowd at a rally here at a golf course in this retirement community about an hour south of Charleston. He suggested Pope Francis’ views had been corrupted by the views of Mexican government officials, who he claimed are determined to make sure he does not win the presidency. Francis, he said, was unfamiliar with the crime and drugs spreading across the U.S. border.
“The pope only heard one side of the story,” Trump said. “He doesn’t understand it.”
_______
I doubt that Trump is really religious. He's too smart for that. He's just pretending in order not to alienate the Christian Coalition wing of the Republican Party.
The Pope, on the other hand, is at least 1000 years behind the times. He's the head of a dumbed down medieval church that has zero relevance in our world today. He's not as far out of touch as the Iranian Ayatollah or the ISIS Caliph Al Baghdadi, but he's not far behind.

Pretty hypocritical of the Pope to condemn walls while he lives safely in a walled off community!

Take a look at the Pope's walls! llYes Anna, I remember standing in that line of people stretching around that wall. You can see them in your photo. They're lined up for admission to the Vatican Museums. I remember taking that tour and forming some strongly negative impressions of the church. First of all, it put me in a foul mood because of so many tourists crowded together with bodies pressing against each other. That overcrowding made for an uncomfortable tour. Then the incredible amount of valuables they have on display, all looted from far flung countries that the church preaches to. It is amazing how much wealth is concentrated there in the Vatican City. Through its history, this church has been more imperialistic than England, France, and Spain combined.

I've heard claims about the Vatican Bank. Maybe a thread on this would be of interest.
I associate imperialism with taking over foreign countries, but trying not to look like an invader. DAS (formerly BushAdmirer)

Through its history, this church has been more imperialistic than England, France, and Spain combined. No doubt plenty of the artifacts were looted, but also many were gifts/bribes from various rulers and noblemen seeking Papal favor. Makes you wonder what happened to 'vows of poverty' and 'not storing up treasures here on Earth'.
