news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/8181052.stm Page last updated at 10:45 GMT, Monday, 3 August 2009 11:45 UK Youth in court over bleach attack The woman was attacked in a restaurant in front of her family A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court in connection with a bleach attack on a woman who asked a group of youths to be quiet in a cinema. The 46-year-old had bleach thrown in her face in a restaurant after earlier asking the group to be quiet during the new Harry Potter film. The boy was arrested after the incident on 26 July in Kirkstall Road, Leeds. He was remanded in custody at Leeds Youth Court charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The teenager will appear next before Leeds Magistrates' Court via video link on 7 August. An application for bail was refused. Another youth who was arrested on Saturday has been released on police bail while inquiries continue. The woman was attacked at a Frankie and Benny's restaurant in front of her husband and two children after she asked a group of teenagers to stop making noise during a screening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at the Vue cinema.

Once I took my druggie chum and his friend - anotther marginalised guy - to the cinema and sat behind a couple of middle aged women. Just before the film began they showed the advert asking people to turn off their mobiles, so I hunted for mine and got the other two to do the same.
Of course this involved a lot of shuffling and mobile phones making noises, whereupon the women turned round and told us to be quiet. I explained we were looking for our phones to turn off and they went on and on about how we shouldn't have our phones, did we know they weren't allowed?
We moved, and had I had a bottle of bleach......

There is a certain kind of person who makes far more disturbance telling everybody else to stop causing a disturbance than they ever were in the first place.

There is a certain kind of person who makes far more disturbance telling everybody else to stop causing a disturbance than they ever were in the first place. The film hadn't even started; that's why were switching off our phones! Every time I tried to explain that we had lost one of the phones they became very rude, and although (of course!) I would not have assaulted either, I wish I had been equally rude back. I do suspect they were the kind of people who insults the scruffy (and I'm afraid these two men were scruffy) just because they can.

Having got that off my chest, there is a lot of noise and bad behaviour in cinemas which completely ruins a film for anyone trying to get into a atmosphere; not to mention children who are far too young to sit through a two hour movie and grizzle throughout.
Perhaps the answer is to bring back the usherette, who would in the old days have called the heavy mob

It does make you wonder, that sometimes the pomposity and arrogance of some older people can make you sympathise with the kids and feel that if that's how they usually get treated it's not surprising that they end up with that kind of a chip on their shoulder. Probably the pompous weight-throwers got exactly the same prejudice when they were wearing their drainpipes and flared skirts (not together!). They usually behave as if incapable of ever making a mistake themselves.

They are not fit to associate with decent people. Feral rats, the lot of them.

I'd agree with the sentiment. I suppose she's only lucky that it's not the USA and she got shot. On the other hand, the way some people treat kids makes you wonder if they have ever learnt to respect anybody in their life. They are probably just what kids like this grow into.

Actually if it WAS the USA she'd have been able to shoot the punks herself.
Under Magna Carta WE have a right to carry weapons for self-defence but of course the lowlives who misrule us took that right away from us a long time ago.

Perhaps the answer is to bring back the usherette, who would in the old days have called the heavy mob I've found that the noise makers in films are usually present in the first week of the film's showing. They are just impatient, immature and inconsiderate. They usually aren't present after the film has been around over a week.. So i make a habit of seeing top films after they've played a couple weeks at least and to date i haven't had any more problems with the "noise makers".

Anna , that's good news because I'm supposed to be seeing Harry Potter tomorrow. Now I just have to stop my freind from making too much noise - he is an awful fidget. In the past me and Mr Lark have sandwiched him between us to keep him quiet but this time it's just me!
