Glad I'm not the only klutz. A couple of days ago, I was out snipping the dead heads off flowers in open toed sandals and smashed my toe against the brick that borders the flower bed. OOOooo - it hurt so bad and is now showing a blue bruise. As if that wasn't enough, this morning I was sitting at the table having a bowl of cereal and glancing through the newspaper. The doorbell rang. We have just moved to this house and it sounds different from my old one and startled me. I jumped up - without backing the chair away from the table!!! . . . . more bruises. It's kind of pathetic when we hurt ourselves unnecessarily.

It's actually amazingly easy to hurt yourself.
It doesn't necessarily mean that you're stupid!

The silliest one is a paper cut. Friday before last, the handle came off a mug I was washing at work and the spike of glaze it left shot straight into the pad under my left thumb. Luckily it's a pretty good place to stab yourself and though deep wasn't a very long cut, so we managed to bind it up and by the Tuesday a plaster was enough to protect it. The last thing I did there was a tiny cut between thumb and fingers that needed three stitches because there's no other way to keep that region closed.

My "classic" (which still brings my wife out in fits of laughter) was when I was pruning the roses with a new, and very VERY sharp set of secateurs. I almost pruned my left index finger off; on the hand that was holding the branch that I was about to prune. Still don't know how it happened!

It's actually amazingly easy to hurt yourself. It doesn't necessarily mean that you're stupid! Some careless injuries can make me feel clumsy, though. It's far too easy to hurt ourselves, I think. The point seems to be that we are really quite fragile. One might think we'd have developed more resilience and tougher skin through evolution. Maybe our fragility is a way to control population.

It was just like someone had flung a sack of coal down the stairs, what a racket. Mr. E. was fast asleep on the sofa (his usual position) and I'm not kidding, he was out of his seat, awake and in the hall picking me up within two seconds. I was all of a wobble and the bruise on my backside covered one butt cheek completely. It was dreadful. I can understand you crying - it's the shock that does it.

A few years ago Mr. E. fell through our glass conservatory roof (he was cleaning windows). I won't go into details, but the cuts on his leg were something to behold and the conservatory floor looked like a massacre had taken place. When his leg had eventually healed (loads of stitches) he went out and bought a new saw ready to build a new roof on the conservatory, and the first piece of wood he sawed.... well you've probably guessed. It was back to the hospital to get his finger sewn up.
