What about self-defence? Or assassinating a tyrant (say, Hitler or Stalin?) To me that's justified homicide. I'm not saying it's good but (like so many moral issues in life) it's sometimes the lesser of two evils. Hi Big Lin, it is up to each individual what decision they choose to put into action, keeping in mind that every action incurs a consequence. It is the law that we should not kill another human being. God's law of 'you reap what you sow' still stands, So a person would have to think seriously about their choice of action. Usually, if a dictator is assassinated there is always a person who is next in line, ready to take over, and they might be even more sadistic than the previous one. If to protect your own life you kill someone, you might be exonerated by the law of the land, but you will still have to face the repercussions of the law of Karma. Think about it!!! there are no repercussions from the law of karma for doing right

Hi Big Lin, it is indeed thought provoking, we kill animals to appease our hunger, but even if we were vegetarians. When we get sick, we take medicine to kill the germs or viruses that are causing us to be ill. And what about the bacteria that we carry on our bodies we wash frequently and use chemicals in order to minimise the amount of bacteria on our skin. We also use mouthwash with the same intention, so I guess we do kill in order to live. What do you think?

Chris, arguments from what humans think God wants don't work very well because a) they obviously have no effect on non-religious people; b) even among the religious there are so many different interpretations of what people think God wants.
I don't believe in karma anyway; in my experience the good don't always prosper and the wicked often are rewarded.
And since even by breathing air we're killing other beings what's the answer? Suicide?
I think we have to accept that basically kindness is the answer but also that life involves death ('in the midst of life we are in death' as it says) and all we can do is try to minimise the amount of unnecessary suffering and killing.

Hi Big Lin, Granted! This is how you see life, therefore this is what you will expound until further information is given out by by someone else, then you have the opportunity to believe it or not.that is what makes life so interesting. The brain might atrophy without the stimulation of new information that allows us to ponder over its merits.. People will flock to certain venues, where they will pay good money to listen to someone give a talk on what they have come to believe. We may not come to believe accordingly, but it gives us the opportunity to argue the pros and cons of the subject. On the different forums it is enjoyed and is relatively free. What mor could you ask for?

Karma is God's law, which is Thou Shalt Not Kill. You can't get past that. Oi stop misquoting my autobiography ! The Bible advocates murder in Exodus 31:15 by saying anyone who works on the sabbath day shall be stoned to death. So does Deuteronomy 17:2-7 when the Bible justifies putting someone to death for breaking the First Commandment. Leviticus 20:9 says that disobedient teenagers must be put to death as well. but personally I prefer a good cuppa .. in fact I could murder for one now.

Pity some people have not learned that yet.

What a pile of Funny I spent all my life trying to do good deeds yet more people celebrate my death than Hitler's !

We in ECKANKAR take full responsibility for all that we are and whatever decision we put into action. We don't blame anyone else, so don't blame your Mother for your shortcomings. You have been given freedom of choice within whatever Karma you have put into place, so don't come 'the raw prawn' with me. In other words, you are trying to back out of your responsibility for who you are. As I said B4, you have a choice, so use it wisely. As far as I can see, you are allowing yourself to be influenced by the negative force, namely the 'Devil' and cohorts. It is up to you to change your attitude, if you so wish, by using your God given FREE WILL, think about it Jesus Christ.

You can't get past that. no ma'am, god never said any such thing. he said "thou shalt not MURDER" Hi Iamjumbo, the first Bible that I studied did not mention in the ' ten commandments ' murder, but the words ' Thou Shalt Not Kill ' and that is what I will always believe. It also mentions somewhere else that only God has the right to kill. It was the St James Bible. But anyway, whether we are religious or not, the fact remains that we are either obeying the negative force or the positive force. We are the ones that make the choice. We will either choose to love or choose to hate. We are all witness to the results of each should they be put into action.

As long as we continue to retaliate, Karma will keep churning out in like kind, every action that has been put into place, whether you meant to do it or not. Karma is God's law, not the law of the land, where a person can get away with killing if they think the killig was circumstancial and therefore not premeditated.
