The Atkin's diet has proven very successful compared to other diets. In the induction phase of the Atkin's diat carbohydrates are limited to about 25 grams a day. Not easy for most of us. There is no limit to the amout of protein and fat that could be consumed daily. Eating carbohydrates and sugar cause the body to produce insulin. Insulin protects the fat reserves in the body from being burned off. During the Atkin's diet the body's fat burning enzymes are released.

I don't think diets work unless you're prepared to stay on them for life.
I'd rather just eat in moderation and exercise.

I'd rather just eat in moderation and exercise. i enjoy my food too much i find as long as i exercise i can eat what i want

The Dr. Atkin's diet is based on "Ketosis", which is explained here. It's a scientific presentation.

The original Atkins diet Induction phase had people start with ZERO carbs, then use ketostix to check for ketones before adding any carbs back into the diet and even then they were added gradually over time so as to stay in ketosis as long as weight loss was desired.

I dont like anyone telling me what I cant go by a diet that tells me what I can or can't eat. I cut back on carbs and soda.That works for me.
