I cannot imagine how anyone could possibly regard such a verdict as remotely fair or just.

It shows yet again how the obsession with appearing to punish crime simply results in injustice.

Perhaps the advocates of this kind of sentence should go the whole hog and return to the bad old days when you could be hung for stealing a handkerchief.
