I just have an eerie feeling this could lead to those secret do it yourself coat hanger abortions, which kill the mother too.. www.wxii12.com/health/19843503/detail.html QUOTE: Program Pays Girls $1 Per Day To Not Get Pregnant Funds Help Pay For Girls' College Educations UPDATED: 9:28 am EDT June 24, 2009 GREENSBORO -- A buck-a-day -- that's the incentive being offered to young girls to keep them from getting pregnant. The group College-Bound Sisters was founded at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro by Hazel Brown, a maternity nurse who thought too many teens were having babies. Brown said she hopes the program, which pays $1 each day to 12-to-18-year-old girls, will keep them from getting pregnant. In addition to remaining pregnancy-free, the girls must also attend weekly meetings. The program is funded by a four-year grant from the state. "Our three goals are that they avoid pregnancy, graduate from high school and enroll in college," Brown said. Under the program, $7 is deposited into an interest-bearing college fund that the girls can collect once they graduate high school. Some recent graduates earned more than $2,000 and are an inspiration to those still in the program. "I might want to be a teacher for a few years and then be a lawyer," said 12-year-old Chelsey Davis. "I might want to be an actor or singer," another girl in the program, Amanda Davis, added. Program director Laurie Smith said those aspirations are more achievable because of the incentives the program provides and the friendships it helps create. Smith said nearly 100 percent of the girls who finish the program have gone on to graduate college. If a girl drops out or gets pregnant, her money is divided among the other girls still in the program.

I doubt very much whether the majority of young girls who get pregnant do so by accident any more - at least in the West.

These girls can utilize the Monica Lewinsky/Bill Clinton method of oral sex (which is not really sex according to Bill) and still get paid for not getting pregnant.

I don't. I expect a few feel so lonely that realising screwing around does not bring them the acceptance that they would like to give, that they long for a child to care about them, and to show all the people who put them down as not capable of doing anything, that they can bloody well do that. Nobody gives a toss about them, the only attitude that Government takes is to suppress them and get them into the regular work world.
A lot of girls probably get pregnant because they do not believe what school tells them, because they believe that men want shagbags, or the nearest they have ever had to sex education tells them that it is something males want that they must resist (or be inferior 'sluts' and 'sex objects') and the males control - and then one day, they discover that sex is something females feel too, and they have no education for controlling their own desires but have been taught that all control lies with males to control them and they should prosecute those males for trusting them as equals instead of silly girls incapable of making decisions for themself that the male should back off from and ignore no matter what she says.

I doubt very much whether the majority of young girls who get pregnant do so by accident any more - at least in the West. I think the fact that we have 200,00 abortions a year may indicate otherwise. We have the highest teenage abortion rate in Europe, I cannot convince myself that these young girls are getting pregnant just for the thrill of going through an abortion, though you appear pretty sure that they do, perhaps you have seen evidence that backs up your theory?

Those would be girls using abortion as contraception wouldn't they? That is not such an easy matter in the USA where this story comes from. I have certainly seen the joy and pride in young girls who really had damn-all going for them and thought what a terrible mistake they were making, as well as hearing interviews with those who'd said they thought they would have something to love.

It's sad that they have to bribe them w/ 2k; are they seriously that lacking in judgment? If so, there are bigger issues that need to be addressed.
