That's where my dentist is! That very street! I have to go there. *heavy sigh* Well.. considering what happened to so many people, my concerns are very small. But I will be going there tomorrow. The cops of course have that section of the street cordoned off, so we'll have to detour around it. That's just as well. I dont want to see the blood stains and the damage. How anyone could do such a thing is so beyond my comprehension. And I dont know why we're saying "it wasn't terrorism". What is that: denial?? Bombings have come to America. Bombings and shootings - I dont think it matters exactly who does these things to say whether it's terrorism or just a crime. I think we're in denial. Because "bombings only happen in other countries", as far as we've always had it...

We do need to know who did this and why. yes indeed, I hope they figure that out very soon. My thoughts are with the victims and their families.

I just got back from Boylston Street in Boston (where the bombings occurred). I had a dental appointment there. I didn't need to go to the 12 block area that's sealed off, and I wouldn't have got in or wanted to anyway. So I didn't see a whole lot. But while the city is open for business today (it kind of wasn't yesterday), there are still sirens going and cop cars racing, and people seem quiet.
The Boston Marathon is always a day of jubilation, and a source of pride for us here. The runners start in a town out towards the middle of the state, and they run to Copley Square, all those miles. And people line the streets for it, pretty much the whole way. And I don't know, but it's usually a happier day than usual..for the whole state. The news stations take a break from the grim reporting they usually dole out unceasingly, and show more like the positive side of things for a change. We all dress better than usual even, and we feel good.
Well, we don't feel good now.
I just heard on the TV that the cops have identified a suspect. It's not official yet, so the news stations (who are still going round the clock on this) are being cautious with what information they have. But it seems they identified a man placing a sack of some kind on the ground. In a couple hours, the FBI will give a press conference to tell us where they are in the investigation. But it feels like we're going to find out who did this...if not today, then tomorrow or the next day, but we'll sort it out.
I still cant believe there could be people who'd do such a thing. We've all seen (in the US)acts of terrorism happening in other countries, and on a regular basis, so it becomes part of life there. But we've never had that here...not beyond a few unusual events. We haven't been under constant threat and vigil against terrorism. We haven't had to worry about backpacks and going to the city.
Well, now we do. I guess things really did change after 9-11. I was just in denial since then, like so many of us who grew up in a country that seemed entirely insulated from such things. We were free, free to be happy.
But what a hideous, messed up world it really is after all.
Whoever bombed us, did more damage than than they hoped for probably...because it hurts our spirit, us all, across the whole country.

Police have released a surveillance photo of a man they suspect may be involved in the Boston marathon terror bombing.
