Hmmmm........I've started writing an answer a few times and had to erase the more I thought about it...........what if there is nothing you can do about it? It would be like having a death sentence hanging over your head.......would it keep you from having a happy life.....would it keep you from having children........I'm not sure......
My husband has a lot of cancer in his family........he has never smoked.......doesn't drink.......and has already lived longer than his brothers did..........so if you could do some preventive stuff and avoid getting the disease.......that would be great.......

It's only going to give you an indication of risk , why bother ,I'd sooner be ignorant ,

No, I wouldn't bother. If I'm going to die next year or next month or whatever, I'd rather not know until I really have to!

No, I'd leave it up to God.

That's an odd remark Donna; would you carry on smoking on the basis that God will decide anyway?
If a test revealed that I had a strong chance of developing (say) Parkinsons, I would try to find what sort of things help prevent it. There is often something you can do to ward it off?

The only thing I can think of is a family I knew that had a fatal disease that ran in their family.......one daughter had child after child.......I'm not sure how many only lived a few years.....I know one time she gave birth the same day one died.........they tried and tried to tell her to stop having more...........
If I was planning on having children I might want to know if I had something that could be passed on to my possible children........

I think that even these days you'd have to know what you were looking for. A member of that particular family would be foolish not to get tested once the problem had been found. Then if she (or he) carries the gene, embryos could be screened to see if they had inherited the bad or the good gene from that parent.
