I love those pigs in blankets ( sausage with bacon wrapped round it) I hate brussel sprouts but they always appear on my plate.

I think you have beef don't you ? As turkey is usually on Thanksgiving , what do you usually have for christmas ? Oh I see. It's because you said "lunch" rather than "dinner", made me think you were talking about a work thing. My family always had turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then on New Years Eve my mom would make meatballs and ham and deviled eggs and salad...a buffet which would be served at midnight. She had us do this thing where one of us had to go outside with a lump of coal and knock after midnight...I was never sure if just her family did that or if this is a typical English thing, but the food sure was good. Americans dont typically make food for New Years. It attracted a lot of friends to come over. And I still honor this tradition even now. I will have a dozen people here for New Years Eve, and lots of good food and entertainment. I do it every year.

I hate turkey; it seems to go on for ever so the last couple of years we've stopped having it.
We adore boiled gammon and we have lots of bits and pieces to go with it; pease pudding, all that kind of stuff.
And the liquid is great to make a soup stock out of as well.

My husband fries turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas........it is absolutely the best and the juiciest turkeys I have ever had....will never be able to go back to baked ones! Usually have brussel sprouts too.....love those.....used to trade with my sister at meals....she would eat my share of peas and I would eat her brussel sprouts.
I think I enjoy everything about it except cleaning up afterwards. I have one sister that she and her kids don't lift a finger to help and just sit there......it ticks me off more and more.....sometimes I just assign them duties but the fact I have to say something just annoys me to no end.

Gosh.....it's my husband's creation.......he injects it with Tony Chachere's cajun butter......and then rubs it with all sorts of spices......this goes on for two days....to the point I'm starting to get jealous of the big birds..........and then he has a huge stainless steal pot outside.......slowly lowers it into the boiling peanut oil.........and voila' .....fried turkey......

I was never a huge turkey fan.....tend to be dry........these turn out so juicy and wonderful........he's being doing it for years now.......he does ours and then about four other ones for other people........he only takes so many so there are people that have their places reserved for months beforehand.........
