Twice today I ran into people at the train station complaining about EVERYTHING. There was a woman there this morning saying stuff like they don't give us anything at my job; we don't get any bonuses anymore, etc., etc. Then she started in on how the transit system is going to raise the fares by a $ before the end of the year. She was going on and on saying the drivers make so much money, I don't make anything; they get all this overtime, I don't get any of that, etc., etc. I said to her maybe we should live in another state, where train fares are even MORE money than here. I also said thank God WE HAVE JOBS. This afternoon this woman was complaining that the bus we were on they had to change drivers and that "would take time". The time it takes from what I've seen is less than 5 minutes! I asked when else are they supposed to do all this? I didn't get any good answer to that, but she then complained that she gets off work at a certain time. I said I get off work an hour later than that and that we at least HAVE jobs. I didn't get any answer to that either. I really get tired of these people complaining when they could EASILY be on unemployment! Yes, many jobs (including my own) aren't giving bonuses right now, raises, etc. But which is better: have a job OR live on unemployment? Having lived on unemployment a few times, I'll take a job any day! Why can't people point out the positives? And is it really a crisis to have to wait for a bus to change drivers? I get so sick of spoiled brats that don't want to wait for anything and HAVE a job when the TRUE unemployment rate is over 13% (last I heard from an economist on alternative news)! Why not focus on the good in our lives? There's always people better off and worse off than us! OK, am done now. I just happened to run into these ungrateful, impatient types today TWICE and it got to me. Thanks for listening to my ranting. ;D

We, as Americans, have been so spoiled, that we bytch without thinking how it sounds to others. The recession is good in that people will learn how to live on less and hopefully be thankful for what they have.
I haven't had much of a pot to pizz in for eight years but I've always known how to survive and be grateful for what I have and now how quickly it all can be taken away and you have to start all over again.

Yes, there's complaining and then there's whingeing. 'Bloody weather' is a legitimate complaintthat shows how you feel; going on an on about it and how you feel is a whinge. I find things being told to 'survive' this economic turn-down that are how I've lived all my life and would feel losing control over myself if I did not. Days when I had the luxury of a garden, of course I grew edibles in it and naturally threw everything decayable onto the compost. When did people stop doing that, that it is now presented as something really difficult and weird to think about? Of course I made my own bread and meals. Why should I pay five times the price for what somebody else has decided I ought to eat and lose control over my own life? Who are these morons who need to be taught how to look after themselves like traditional women instead of children relying on Big Business to tell them what to do, how to do it and where to spend their reward for obedience?

We, as Americans, have been so spoiled, that we bytch without thinking how it sounds to others. Chefmate, I am humbled! We in Britain and the rest of Europe often have the US held up as a kind of dire warning of what things could be like if we let them. One week's holiday a year (has this changed?) used to be quite common for someone starting in a job, and the minimum wage was pitiable compared to ours.

Most jobs give one week pay after a years work......it increases as you go along but it still is chintzy and the minimum wage is $7.25 an hour and $8.00 in California....
I have what is called FTO which means I earn five hours every pay period and am up to 117 hours and even when I burn time off while I work I am still adding to my account so I always have at least two weeks off but that is after five years so no big thing.......if I wasn't such a lazy shit and calling in sick when I'm not just so I can be home, I could earn an additional 32 hours a year but who wants perfect attendance in hell?

It's much better to complain about it on something like this board than to go out and actually DO something stupid.

You all are so funny and I love coming here.
My job is okay but deadend and with the jobless rate so high, I don't dare try to move and lose my benefits at this point.
I'm just approaching age sixty so have realized how much experience and wisdom I have gained in life yet it means nothing because I am not young and being an older worker is not valued anymore in America....companies want youth that they can mold and fill their heads with bs.......I am not politcally correct, will tell someone to fuk themselves in a new york minute, and have no urge to work myself to death for what few benefits I can get....I make good recommendations there and do my work but I don't kiss azz and that holds me back but that is on them, not me.

There was a time when we felt that personal relationships and home life came first and we could chang esociety to support them instead of to suppress them as distractions from service. Then along cam Reagan and Thatcher, and the whole idea of people before profit became unthinkable, especially among those organisations that had previously been foremost in promotiing it and classing "women's" values above men's and men to change and join them instead of women to conform to 'masculine' traditional values.
