Prompted by this: Animal welfare: Germany moves to ban bestialityI was wondering, can you think of a rational argument against bestiality that would not also apply to putting animals to work in the field or eating them? By rational argument I mean something that more resembles a chain of reasoning than just "sex with animals is wrong because it is icky whereas using them as physical labourers isn't wrong because it isn't".

Ah, a man and his sheep! Well that's just baa-a-aaa-ad. But hey , now we got something we can arrest the aliens for! Because you can turn a cow inside out, but don't you kiss her, buddy! Oh I can just see it now... "Alright, alright, I get it. It's 'lonely in space', yea yea yea. Tell it to the judge!" And meanwhile, what did the poor little sheep do to deserve this, huh? Oh. Alright, what do ya' got to say for yourself, Missy? "Alright, I'm locking you both up!" ..."Separate cells!" Ya know, for my sanity, I want to believe that people don't really have sex with animals, but...apparently they do. We had a guy in town got caught doing a cow. Yep. A cow.

That's appalling.
Cows belong in fields, not towns!

It's believed syphilus became a human disease as a result of bestiality with sheep. Originally syphius was alledgedly a disease that only sheep had.

That is an interesting question, Synonym. I suppose one's first stab at an answer would be to say that sex between animals and humans is unlikely to be genuinely consensual but then I suppose it is hardly probable that most animals would consent to be slaughtered for food.
On the issue of animals as beasts as burden I think one could make a case that the situation that obtains is similar to that among humans where the majority of us dislike the jobs that we do but we simply continue working for purely economic reasons.
I will however give serious thought to this question because it is an intriguing one that raises all kinds of moral dilemmas. Too often ethics is seen from a purely human viewpoint and it is refreshing to see a less androcentric approach!

Toby comments.:- I used to work in the Courts and Bestiality cases came along every now and again, the usual punishment was pay a fine and see a Psychiatrist. Bestiality is far more common than you would think, in Holland a Yorkshire Terrier is called a ,'Kutlicker', due to the number of elderly Ladies who use the Terrier for pleasuring purposes. In the Middle East where sex with females before marriage is frowned upon, sex with animals is considered almost normal.
