I live about forty minutes from the A's stadium but see the game will be in Florida, not California.
I was given tickets to a game and gave them away; baseball doesn't interest me in the least

I also like the fans at baseball stadiums more than the fans for other sports. They're peaceful and i can focus my binoculars on one of my favorite players and really relax. Only once in my life did i go to a European socceer game and the fans were so loud and "mob like" that i left in the middle of the game and was relieved to be out of there..

I was tempted to suggest you try an English cricket game, Anna, but I'm not sure that is as civilised as it once was! You might walk out for other reasons, though , assuming you haven't already nodded off...

I was tempted to suggest you try an English cricket game, You would subject an innocent bystander to watch a 'game' of cricket? That would single you out than worse than a water boarder. Try watching paint dry... ...Twice.

It didn't look to exciting; maybe I would have more fun at a toenail clipping event.

Cricket differs from baseball in that the pitcher or bowler, as the English say, will try to knock down the white pegs behind the batter and the batter has to ward this off and try to hit the ball as in baseball for a few runs. In the part of Germany where i live Cricket doesn't exist! But we do have baseball, The Stuttgart Reds, the Tübinger Hawks. etc., but it's an import sport. like socceer is in the US!

Cricket is a game that needs skill, guts and a bit of ingenuity.
If you've ever faced a quick bowler you know how hard batting is.
You can bowl bouncers a lot and in the days before helmets people got badly hurt or even killed. Even with them it can still shake a batter up a bit if he gets hit by a hard cricket ball.
Then there's the skill of the doozra, googly, and the other variations of flight, spin and speed used by the slower bowlers.
The batter is a bit like the matador in a bullfight up against the bull.

Lin, you sound as though you have played cricket.
I never have, which is perhaps why I can't appreciate its finer points!

It just didn't look to interesting so maybe someone could locate better videos than the one's I found on YouTube.
I will reverse my opinion if I can see it is interesting but then, I'm not a baseball fan unless I'm in the game as it is to boring to watch.
I prefer basketball, ice hockey, boxing and bull riding...fast moving and keeps my interest

In Cricket the Bowler can run to the what's called the pitcher's mound in baseball and make his/her throw. Baseball pitchers are not allowed to do this. In Baseball no one has ever thrown the ball faster than 110 miles an hour. I don't know what kind of velocity cricket bowlers get with their running toss. Also i've never seen a baseball pitcher try to bounce the ball on the ground when making a pitch. It's probably not allowed!

Lin, you sound as though you have played cricket. I never have, which is perhaps why I can't appreciate its finer points! I have, Skylark, and I loved it. The England women's team has just won the World Cup and before that we won the Ashes! More than the men seem able to do! Men can bowl faster than women (the fastest woman bowler is just about medium-fast or possibly fast-medium while the men have reached speeds of around 100 miles an hour and balls bowled in the 90s are common while most women bowlers can only reach up to the 70s. I was a medium-fast bowler with a mean bouncer and a natural awayswing. I was also a hard-hitting lower order bat who either got out quickly or made rapid 50s or 100s! Defence was NEVER my strong suit if I was batting at the wicket!
