(CNN) -- Able to scare up a few bucks? Just in time for Halloween, the owners of the home made famous in the spooky 1970s film "The Amityville Horror" are dramatically slashing the asking price on their Toms River, New Jersey, colonial, which was used for exteriors in the film. The decision wasn't triggered by demonic activity, however. Apparently, another frightening "D" word was to blame. "My husband and I are getting a divorce," said Odalys Fragoso, who bought the house with her husband Jose Fragoso in 2001. "It's not that the house is haunted or anything. We had wonderful times in that house." The couple purchased the house for $795,000. Originally listed last year at $1.45 million, the four-bedroom, three-bath home is now going for $955,000 -- a bargain, according to the agent. "If there were a curse on it, I wouldn't be in it," joked Donna Walesiewicz, the broker selling the 3,370-square-foot residence. "It is what it is, a nice old stately home." The horror film, about an apparently haunted house, spawned several sequels. It was also the perfect place for Hollywood producers, who used it as a double for the real Amityville house when shooting the 1979 movie. The film, based on Jay Anson's 1977 best-seller, featured buzzing flies, ghostly eyes, blood pouring from the walls and a satanic voice warning a visiting priest to "Get out!" The film starred James Brolin, Margot Kidder and Rod Steiger www.cnn.com/2012/10/03/showbiz/movies/amityville-horror-house-for-sale/index.html?hpt=hp_c3

A million dollars for a four-bedroom house? Wow. That's a few bucks alright. It must be in nicely finished condition.

Think you could do tours and definitely host a Haunted House and make some money off the place...... Good thinking Sadie123, I would not have thought of that myself. Would the new owners then be obliged to produce some supernormal happenings to esure that the visitors went away happy?

It looks like it needed a paint job. I did see that movie Anna, It didn't scare me one bit, though I now know it is best not to be involved with them in anyway. I remember reading about some actors experiencing a lot of bad luck after they finished the movie. Maybe we shouldn't read it in the papers either. We don't know enough about how we all come to be here to really give an opinion as to why things happen the way that they do, apart from Karma. Life is very strange indeed that's for sure!!!

As I recall there were a number of sequels to Amityville and I can hardly remember any of them except one scene where a man was fleeing from some dark creature and got in a paddle boat and fled to some kind of island hoping the monster couldn't swim. The creature paused at the edge of the lake and then entered the lake or pond falling straight to the bottom giving the impression of drowning. The bubbles from the submerged creature started to move towards the island. Classical scary movie stuff.
The rest of the few Amityville films I saw I can hardly remember and found distasteful. Ugly negative occult combined with flies or bugs.

Hi Anna, we seem to be attracted to that kind of movie, no doubt thinking we are finding out more of what life is all about. But with all the knowledge that I have accumulated over the years, it is better to try and stay on the side of what is considered good. I have been in a few situations that could have proven to be dangerous, but seemingly I have always come through unscathed. I have always loved God with all my heart since I was a child, so maybe this has got something to do with my seeming protection. I have always been very gratefull for whatever came my way no matter what it was, and consequently was always giving thanks to God, because there is always someone suffering worse problems, so I guess you are always giving thanks for the fact that you haven't experienced what they have had happen to them. Ofcourse, as you would probably know yourself, ECKANKAR promotes Divine Love and having a gratefull heart. I'm so glad that I met the Mahanta in this lifetime. One more initiation and I'll have made it into the Soul Plane permanently, won't I be glad!!!

It looks like it needed a paint job. LOL ll i love you ♫anna♫ Hi Gibby, you wouldn't catch me anywhere near that house, let alone live in it. As far as I remember, I only saw the first film. That was enough for me.!!! Believe it or not, ghosts gather at these kind of movies, so they can latch on to you and go home with you.

Oh me too. I'd love to see a ghost. I might have nightmares for a while afterwards, but it would be quite the experience.
