www.wmtw.com/cnn-news/19194108/detail.html QUOTE: Vassalboro Residents Seek To Halt More Nudity Topless Coffee Shop Owner Wants To Open Strip Club UPDATED: 7:30 am EDT April 16, 2009 VASSALBORO, Maine -- Residents of Vassalboro packed the town office Wednesday night to draft a new town ordinance addressing nudity. The issue started when a topless coffee shop, The Grand View, opened in town. The owner decided he now wants to expand the business and has announced he'd like to add a strip club. Vassalboro residents discussed several options Wednesday night, including an outright ban on establishments that have nudity. Many residents said, at the very least, they want to set strict guidelines for any new businesses opening in the town. Selectwoman Libby Mitchell warned that an outright ban could result in a long legal battle, saying the town of Farmingdale tried to put a ban on the books but the state Supreme Court overturned the ordinance. Wednesday night's meeting was held to gather information and input. The town selectmen will draft an ordinance in the next week and hold another public hearing before a final vote set to take place on June 8.

I had one of those totally irrelevant thoughts, for I was reminded of that brilliant episode in the Simpsons where Marge mounts a campaign against unhealthy influences on TV, and ends up unwittingly uniting the town in a campaign against Michaelangelo's David.
For it surely isn't nudity that the town objects to, but sex shows? The two are most definitley not the same - as a visit to any nudist beach will probably confirm.

Skylark, in a rational society the only valid objection to nudity could be on aesthetic grounds since few of us possess what might be described as a perfect body.
On the other hand, as was once famously remarked, 'to the Puritan all things are impure.'

They should have more nudity. I dislike the thought of topless establishments. Strip clubs are just a bit silly. But wouldn't it be great if patrons of topless establishments were required to go topless and of strip joints to strip off? Nudity only becomes titllating in direct proportion to the prudery surrounding it.
