Well.......The story states that undercover officers pull up about the time someone tried to steal that man's shoes or something.....he pulled a gun (turned out to be a starter gun) and fired shots into the air.........then took off running.......they shot him in the leg and he went down so I don't understand the other shots......that is troubling........but it also seems to be a situation where cops pulled up in the middle of crime and things went badly......

Anti-gun lobbyists will no doubt make much of that.
I have heard somewhere of a man hailed as a hero for shooting a gunman in a shopping centre or somewhere similar. He managed to get the right man but said he nearly didn't; he was on the point of targetting another man with a gun who was doing just what he was doing!

I know I'm bemoaning that we aren't a thousand years more progressed, but...holy crap it's barbaric to even have guns! And what offends the most is no one seems to want to TRY to do things differently, they all just go along with the excuse that if you eliminated guns, only criminals would have them. Nonsense. Get rid of the ****ing things, and outfit the cops with tranquilizing guns instead. That way when a "criminal" manufactures a weapon of any kind, he can still be subdued and taken into custody, just humanely instead of hideously. There's no reason we cant do it that way.
But... instead of trying to be a good society, we apparently like to make excuses.
Even the electrocution devices we let cops brandish -> it's as if they set out to do as i suggest (tranquilize instead of kill or injure), but along the way decided to make a hideous new weapon instead. (A tranquilizer puts gently to sleep / a tazer electrocutes! Hello!!!)
Why do we behave like this? ..People LIKE it. Even if they watch it on TV and act repulsed, they are enjoying THAT!
We're a barbaric society.
And I'm ashamed that we don't work on bettering ourselves.

How long does it take for the tranquilizer to take effect? How big a dosage should be used.....do they have a condition that will adversely effect any of the possible medications in the tranquiler? Are they already on drugs that the combination will kill them?
My husband had to be tasered in order to carry a taser.....he knows exactly how it feels. It also takes you to your knees immediately and in most cases the person is right back to normal in a short time period. He had to be maced to carry mace. Luckily he didn't have to be shot to carry a gun.
There is no ideal situation.......the officers deserve to be able to do with their job without being injured also. People forget about that. My husband has been shot at, spit on, too many fist fights to count, had someone attempt to run him over.....and had drug dealers that had our names and our children's names and our address posted on their wall...........
We have a deputy that was shot and killed trying to serve a warrant last night. The suspect was surrounded and eventually taken, alive, this morning. That was more then he gave the officer that was just trying to do his job.....No officer wants to hurt people....if they do....they don't deserve to have a badge or that job.

I do. ..I just feel we surely must have the ability to produce a tranquilizer that works fairly immediately, and innocuously. I mean we take down Rhinos that way... Wow, your names were on the wall?! That's scary. I had some people with my name on their wall, so to speak. I can't say much on the internet, but....... I had to move! And I lived in fear they might find out where I went. I still remember the detective that helped me. I was quite grateful for him.

I think that would be amazing.......I just don't see how it can happen....when you have to take into account....body mass, body condition, any other drugs in their system, etc.
A Rhino probably hasn't been shooting bath salts or on meth......most of them don't have mental illness.......all issues that cause them to be the most dangerous people to arrest or attempt to subdue. Heck...just walking up to them can set them off.
There are rubber bullets.....bean bags.....tear gas.....flash grenades........they want for everyone to come home alive. Unfortunately....you have to have time for those things......and emergency situations don't work like that.
Wasn't scary having my name on the wall, I choose to marry a cop.....a lot of people don't like them and I know that........them having my children's names on their wall made me want to go there and rip their throats out.
The officer killed yesterday was 26 years old and walked up to the man's house because there had been a complaint. It was earlier reported there was a warrant....but that wasn't it.....he just went there to tell the man about the complaint and advise him to stay away from a certain place......and the guy shot and killed him.
