Back to the List Universe for another great list. This one gives a hat tip to the English language via 10 misconceptions about common sayings. For what it's worth, I've never used the term "Wrecking Havoc", either. listverse.com/miscellaneous/10-misconceptions-about-common-sayings/ There are links to related lists, plus reader comments, at the end of this one.

If you think that, you have another thing coming - should be another think not thing. I'm guilty. ;D In my defence, regardless of the original phrase making more sense, I think that THING has now become so normal that we will just have to accept the change and run with it.

If you think that, you have another thing coming - should be another think not thing. I'm guilty. ;D In my defence, regardless of the original phrase making more sense, I think that THING has now become so normal that we will just have to accept the change and run with it. Oddly, I've never heard that expression used with "thing" instead of "think". Actually, that expression isn't used as much as it used to be. My grandfather was a high school English teacher and my best friend's mom was an Am. lit professor. That meant I had to endure some determined efforts to correct my use of the language while growing up. I've picked up some bad habits through life, but had a good grounding early on. Have you noticed online posting, email, instant messaging, etc., encourage a whole new idea of what is and isn't acceptable? Nice and relaxing in a way, but I'm still an erratic comma-demon and keep expecting my gramps to appear in a puff of ether and delete many of my posts.
