My daughter looked through this Food Storage Guide the other day and gagged at the description of what might be lurking on pizza left out for hours and then eaten. Made a big impression on her. Now, what I'm wondering is how the pizza restaurants get away with the buffets and, in fact, how places like Golden Corral can leave food out as long as they do.

What's Golden Corral, an all you can eat place? The BBC made a series called Rogue Restaurants. Between that and the original British 'Kitchen Nightmares' you'd never eat out! Rogue Restaurants investigated an all you can eat place and found old food being mixed in with new, it's really amazing that there aren't more cases of ill customers. Episode 1: The team uncover a well known chain of restaurants where cutting corners leave the customers at risk and the employees exposed to dangerous working conditions.
Also, Matt Allright and Anita Rani investigate the country pubs where E.coli could be on the menu.
Episode 2: They infiltrate the illegals who are paid rates as low as half the minimum wage and find out how much they care about the quality of your food or customer service.
Episode 3:The team go undercover in two Indian restaurants in London. The reporters find rodent droppings in food preparation areas as well as cloths and sponges covered in millions of bacteria, and see uncovered pots of curry sitting around on kitchen floors. They watch on as kitchen staff wash their feet, blow their noses and spit in sinks used to wash customers' cutlery.
Episode 4: An undercover mole investigates a branch of a national pub chain, exposing a catalogue of hygiene disasters including maggot-infested meat and the sausage with a secret ingredient - harmful bacteria.
Anita poses as the boss of a cleaning company and sneaks behind the scenes of a dirty kebab shop, where she finds e-coli in the kitchen.
Episode 5: They find a number of serious contraventions, including leftover food being reheated and resold to customers, and the chefs who are happy to serve food that has been dropped on a dirty floor.
They also meet the landlord who deals with a mouse problem by letting a cat loose in the kitchens
Episode 6: The team infiltrates the kitchen of one of London's swankiest Italian restaurants, loved by A-list celebrities. They are far from impressed by what's happening in the kitchen when they find evidence of dropped ingredients and food in danger of cross-contamination being served up to unsuspecting guests.
Anita goes undercover to expose workers cutting serious corners in two branches of a fried chicken chain. |

That's all pretty disgusting. My husband won't eat at the all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants. He says, "if my food has germs, I want it to be our germs." lol Actually, the board of health publishes the grades they give restaurants in a local newspaper, I think. Need to find out what days and which sections and check it out.
