www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/inmate-sues-over-jail-bed-20111120-ncx QUOTE: Inmate Sues Over Jail Bed20 Nov 2011, 9:13 AM EST NEW YORK - A New York City inmate is suing the city because his prison bed -- which he claims is too short for his 6-foot-1 frame and forces him to curl up in a fetal position every night -- is causing “extreme lower-back pain.” Maxie Leak’s lawsuit in Manhattan federal court alleges that the Department of Corrections refuses to provide longer beds because of cost. “When I lay down straight, my feet hang out the bottom of the bed, so I am forced to lay down in a compromised position,” Leak, 43, wrote in his suit. “This position, known as fetal, has taken a toll on me and has caused me extreme lower-back pain.” Leak has been held at Rikers Island since August on a third-degree felony burglary charge. He is asking that the city give 6-foot and taller inmates special beds -- as well as $1 million in damages.

It would serve him right if the prison took away his bed and just left him a matress on the floor; his feet would be able to stick out of the end.

As a true American I do not believe in cruel and unusual punishment. ;D I doubt if the beds are sprung, so a matrress on the floor isn't much different from a mattress on a board. Though I suppose if the beds are bunk-style there won't be any room to put anything on the ground. Come to think of it, does it matter if your feet stick out the end of the bed so long as they are kept warm? A pair of thock socks would do the job.

hahaha.... yeah a pair of socks works wonders. I do think he should at least be given a mattress that is long enough. But then again I am just a big softie. As for the one million compensation - forget it!

I slept on a mattress on the floor for a year when I had a bad back. People in many countries do it. Thock socks are a luxurty: I have no idea why I suggested them: I must be getting soft.

What does he think- he's in some high class hotel or something? ;D

As for the one million compensation - forget it! Exactly... The million dollar compensation is just a way for him to try to make some money for when he gets out of prison... He's planning his future, see?

What does he think- he's in some high class hotel or something? ;D I see, so according to you only those who stay in high class hotels have a right to expect a decent mattress to sleep on. Well, he needs to quite complaining and get on the floor if he doesn't like it. Pumpkinpie >>>>> <<<<<<< Her husband
