Amy Winehouse Apologizes for Canceling Concerts After 'Disaster Show' in Serbia
Amy Winehouse has to scrap at least two of her scheduled concerts in Europe after being heavily booed during a recent concert in Serbia. The "Back to Black" singer canceled two gigs which were supposed to follow up the Serbian show; one was set to take place in Istanbul on June 20 and another was scheduled to be held in Athens on June 22.
On behalf of the singer, a spokesperson said, "She would like to apologize to fans expecting to see her at the shows but feels that this is the right thing to do." The rep stated furthermore, "Despite feeling sure that she wanted to fulfil these commitments, she has agreed with management that she cannot perform to the best of her ability and will return home."
The Serbian concert which prompted the cancellation was deemed as a "scandal" and a "disaster." Winehouse was jeered for showing up almost an hour late and displaying erratic behavior on stage. She reportedly appeared to be drunk, stumbling around the stage and failing to sing properly.
It was reported that the Grammy-winning British singer, who has been in and out of rehab for battling drug and alcohol issues, couldn't even remember lyrics of her songs. She repeatedly dropped her mics and at some points walked out of the stage, leaving it to her band and back-up singer to fill in for her.
Many of the concertgoers attending the show at the the Serbian capital of Belgrade walked out of the concert early in disappointment and anger. "It was horrible," one fan named Ivana Bilic said. "She should have canceled the whole thing, rather than appear at all like this."

Toby's comment.:- Winehouse was the person nominated as the Jew who most enriched us in 2010. Personally I think she is an extremely ugly, boorish creature, and I do hope that they catch her one day with an appreciable amount of dangerous drugs so she can be imprisoned for a long time so we don't keep hearing about her ludicrous antics.

It's not that unusual in the music world though is it? I happen to like Shane McGowan but he was probably last sober at his First Communion. You can't say it started in the 60s either. Most of the jazz greats were out of their mind on booze and drugs. Edith Piaf died an arthritic old hag on booze and morphine at the age of 48. Charlie Parker was 35 when he died of heroin.
Maybe in a lot of cases it was ghetto background where hard living was common (that includes Piaf moving from a brothel to work the streets in one of the worst slums of Europe about age 10) and occasionally it just might be a case of the opposite, spoilt brat suddenly covered in money.

I think with a lot of stars that reach fame at an early age.....they surround themselves with people that tell them morning, noon and night how wonderful they are....cover up or make their mistakes go away. They start believing they are untouchable and can do anything they want with absolutely no repercussions.

It's worth reading Lemmy from Motorhead. There is that: what young person doesn't fancy the fame and a permanent party? The other side is feeling dreadful after the party and still having to go on, so getting used to uppers to perform and downers to sleep, then the monotony and stress of travel and getting used to new places on tour. Popular entertainers may be under more stress and possibly less used to having it all their own way than the traditional divas.
Maria Callas could do what she liked, because there was no real substitute. Any rock star knows that mass appeal is fickle and there'll be another one along any minute and the pay's not up to much after expenses, session men, producers, agents, record companies, managers and everything else have had their cut.
A few more like this and Mistress Whinehoarse finds herself in a tailspin where only the most dedicated want to spend their money on an unreliable performance - even if they get their money back, there's the annoyance and travelling expenses - when her recordings are reliable, because of that, no venue or handler is certain they'll make money on her and she gets to be a liability.
