Toby comments.:- We are being robbed blind. Many UK Politicians have stakes in Wind Turbine Manufacturers, David Camerons Father-in-Law owns such a firm and they are all doing very nicely out of the money they take from us under the climate warming Lie which demands subsidies which we have to pay. I heard a story about a guy who bought a diesel generator, used the exhaust pipe with a water-based heat exchanger to heat his house and he also had a stack of batteries connected to his mains supply (He needed a device to turn DC to AC), but with him not paying for a meter anymore and using Red Diesel, he came out a bit cheaper than the Mains Electricity. This is now, what about when prices go up and up as they will !!
Read this damning report.:-
Figures put out by the Department for Energy and Climate Change, showing that the 3,168 turbines we have built, at a cost of billions of pounds, contributed on average, if very irregularly, only 1,141 megawatts to the national grid last year – less than the output of a single large coal-fired power station. From the DECC figures it is possible to work out that, for this derisory contribution, we paid through our electricity bills a subsidy of nearly £1.2 billion, on top of the price of the electricity itself.
Thus, in return for less than 3 per cent of our electricity, nearly 7 per cent of our billls were made up of hidden subsidies to the wind developers, a percentage due to treble and quadruple in coming years as the Government strives to meet EU “renewables” target by building up to 10,000 more turbines, at a cost of £100 billion.
The dream of using the wind to keep our lights on is being shown by reality to be one of the most absurd fantasies of our time.

That's interesting, Toby, but please could you provide a link to the story?
Thanks.

I cannot remember exactly where I saw the article Skylark, I think it was on the Conservative Home Blog but not sure. If I see it again I shall post a link.

I've just had a look and found something else with similar figures, saying that offshre wind farms won't begin paying their way for 20 years.
But was it ever claimed to be a cheap source of energy? So far as I know, its only virtue is that it doesn't pollute. And even if yu don't agree with the greenhouse theory, it has to be acknowledged that fossil fuels won't last forever.
I'm in favour of nuclear power....but suspect I am in a minority

Toby comments.:- To make the wind turbines means making steel, iron, copper, brass, zinc, aluminium, rubber, paint, Oils, preservatives etc. The making of these products causes pollution on a grand scale so there is no saving. When windmills were made of wood with flax sails, that was clean energy but I am afraid that modern wind farms will be inefficient and also add to pollution over their lifetime. I read a disturbing article which told the tale of chopped up birds lying dead at the bottom of wind turbines, poor things don't stand a chance !
By the way, I am also in favour of nuclear power.
