www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_11842465 QUOTE: NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Who knew? Apparently having too many home furnishing stores like Ikea in your city is a sign of being "unmanly." At least that's the conclusion of a study released Thursday that ranks "America's Manliest Cities" on criteria such as the number of professional major league sports teams, popularity of tools and hardware and frequency of monster truck rallies. Nashville came out on top in the study conducted by Sperling's BestPlaces. New York City finished last out of 50 of the largest U.S. metropolitan areas. Rounding out the top five were: Charlotte, N.C., Oklahoma City, Cincinnati and Denver. Tennessee placed a second city on the list with Memphis coming in 11th.

Cincinatti and Nashville have also been listed as being in the top ten depressing cities to live in so it all depends on one's viewpoint I guess.

Nashville the manliest city in the US? The land where you can't get unsweetened iced tea if you tried? Believe me...I lived there for 4 years. The title of manliest city is a joke.

the only surprise is cincinatti Cincinnati is a mixed bag. They have a lot of theatre and music (beautiful Aronoff Center for the Arts, Taft, River Front, etc.) and, then, they have the Reds and the Bengals and midnight madness hockey. Also, family oriented entertainment - Cinci Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Kings Island, etc.) From my POV, all are appealing to both genders but, let's face it, the sports have the highest visibility and are usually deemed "manly pursuits". My sil is currently training for their 26 mile "flying pig" marathon. Aranoff Center

There are certainly exceptions, but i suspect manly man often prefer to avoid living in big cities! I tried to find the complete list of manly and non-manly big cities, but haven't been successful so far and of course i can't say that the list is accurate.. At any rate this link from Los Angeles gives more cities. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29555927/Least Manly Sacramento (41). San Diego (43) Oakland (44) San Francisco (48) Los Angeles (49) New York (50). Most Manly 1) Nashville, Tenn. 2) Charlotte, N.C. 3) Oklahoma City 4) Cincinnati 5) Denver 6) St. Louis 7) Columbus, Ohio 8) Kansas City, Mo. 9) Indianapolis 10) Toledo, Ohio

Alaska should have a manliest city! Heck, the men working on the pipeline won that distinction a few years ago I believe. Makes sense, what woman wants to live frozen stiff 365 days a year? (Are they still working on the pipeline??)

(Are they still working on the pipeline??) I agree! Anchorage has a population of 279,671 and that might be not big enough for the survey! I'm sure a lot of smaller towns are very manly!

When will the USA enter the second half of the 20th century, let alone this new one? 'Manly'? That is as insulting to men as calling pink tinsel Barbie 'womanly'

I love going to Sacramento and certainly don't consider it to be unmanly; it is a beautiful city and easy to get around in.....lots of trees in the city

That is as insulting to men as calling pink tinsel Barbie 'womanly' that is stupid on its face. there is NOTHING insulting about "manly" or "womanly" to any intelligent person who doesn't have a gender identity problem. are you planning on having the surgery soon?
