news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/north_east/7914655.stmChildren accused of crime spree Police in Shetland said vandalism would not be tolerated Five children as young as 12 have been reported over more than 40 incidents of vandalism and breach of the peace in Shetland worth thousands of pounds. The boys - three aged 12, one aged 14 and a 16-year-old - have been reported to the procurator fiscal and the children's reporter. Northern Constabulary said there had been 43 incidents in Lerwick, Brae and Scalloway over the past few months. The incidents included damage to cars, spray painting and breaking windows. Insp Ross McKillop, based in Lerwick, said: "Vandalism is not a victimless crime and causes much distress to members of the community who have been the victims. "We continue to take a pro-active stance in relation to crimes of this nature and those found to be committing such acts will be dealt with robustly. "This is a part of a wider force strategy to tackle vandalism and anti-social behaviour and we will continue to carry out this work with the support of the community."
