I have always found this to be an interesting question.
Is it a bunch of simple stories handed down merely to teach.....
Did God actually use a group of people like his secretaries to write his words.......
What are your thoughts?

Lots of people wrote the Bible. Some, like Moses, and the early writings, predate Christs birth by some 1400 years. Others were written 60 to 90 years after his death. How one thinks of the Bible depends on ones religious leanings, I guess. I have none, so I view the writings as being on occasion historical records of the times, written in the context of fervent religious mania which exited at that time; a mania founded on ignorance, which sought reason in a world they could not understand. And while I don't decry those who are of a religious leaning, and take the Bible as Gospel, it seems to me much more likely that man made God in his own image, so no, God didn't use secretaries to write his words. It is all the work of superstitious mankind, I am afraid.
It is none the worse for that, and if we were to follow the tenets of the good book, the world would be a much happier place. But the holy word of God? Not in my book!

Definitely agree with Ben Lomond on the origins of the Bible.
Do you think the origins of the Quran were similar?

Definitely agree with Ben Lomond on the origins of the Bible. Do you think the origins of the Quran were similar? Islam is definitely derived from Biblical teachings! Abraham's son Ishmael en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishmael is considered to be a prophet in Islam! Abraham fearing a conflict between Ishmael and Isaac decided in favor of Isaac and sent Ishmael and his mother off into the desert with his best wishes!
Churchianity prefers to downplay this.

The bible isn't really a 'book'. It's a collection of chapters that have been pulled toegther.
I wonder if they are really related stories or if somethings were changed to make them more cohesive.
I presume the 'stories' were traditional word of mouth camp fire tales that were eventually written down. They are quite good tales and you can see how they helped explain the world in more ignorant times.

God is an explanation for the inexplicable, one reason why the church hated and feared science.
