OK, one of these days, I'm going to have something more interesting than weather to talk about in here, but tonight, weather is paramount here in this little corner of the globe. Take a look at this weather map and, remember, I am sitting in northern KY - near the Ohio state line. www.wunderground.com/severe.asp?MR=1

For a change Yorkshire is doing better than the south-east. We had a day's snow last week which even settled but it was gone completely by the next day.
I saw the news yesterday and London was snowing heavily and more expected today.
Oh well, I expect eventually spring will arrive. Until two days ago the water in my window boxes was solid ice. Now it's OK but of course the soil is completely waterlogged. I've bought some new bulbs and planted them in the window boxes but whether or not they'll take I don't know. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.

Mouse, it amazes me you can see signs of spring there while it is so bitter here - more snow and high winds tonight and tomorrow, plus really brutally low temps. We are in the mid-section of the U. S. and our winters are usually pretty moderate. This is the worst we've had in a number of years. It's just going to make spring seem all the sweeter. I have tulips, my favorite flower, in the front border.

the signs of spring always manage to show them selves here...the daffodils are just begining to push through...early lambing is very dodgy though..even though they have been brought down from the tops those being born outside have very little chance this year..so all barns are filled with pregnant ewes..and a friend of mine has three lambs in her kitchen[the ram jump a wall and set to work far too soon] but today is a beautiful sunny day even though its still bitterly cold. snow is forcast for later

Fall again after a good spring and summer. Our temps continue to be very warm; October is progressing with the usual deep blue skies and red and gold foliage. Football season and bonfires and the next thing we know, it will be time for the holidays. Let's keep in touch. What did you do this past week that the rest of us might enjoy hearing about? I walked and set out some potted moms. Not very exciting but a few days in the life. The month of September had more adrenalin shoots ... the biggest and least pleasant when Maxx the cat drowned our iPod in his water bowl. It was hard to make up our minds to go to the expense of replacing it. I wouldn't have so soon, but the other 2 people in this household decided it was an addiction worthy of sacrifice. This time around, great care will be taken to shelter it from harm. best, Beth

Beth, the interesting thing I did this week was attend an International Conference in Edinburgh about victimology.
During this conference I was lucky enough to attend a reception at Edinburgh Castle hosted by the Scottish Government, and another reception where I was honoured to introduce a range of people from across the world to HRH the Princess Royal. (My new American friend went straight back to his hotel and phoned his Mum!!!)
This was a particularly interesting week in my life.

London in Autumn is always good - kind of nostalgic as well, as it was autumn when I first moved here, exactly (well, it will be on the 14th of November) 30 years ago.
Sleeping in a tiny room (about 7'X4') that smelled of bubblegum, on a mattress on the floor, shared with my broody dog (she was not pregnant, but insisted on making nests for herself).
Anyway, I'm off for a walk around the park now, and I might even have a fag roll-up when I'm there.

Sounds like a great week, RG. Glad you enjoyed it.
Aubrey .. hope you had a good little while at the park. October is a gorgeous month here, too. I tried going to the park for walking a couple of times last week, but the trails there, while very nice, are somewhat secluded and off the main area. It made me feel uncomfortable to be there by myself .. few others at all. I have changed back to either walking the blocks in my neighborhood to the garden shop (just over a mile) and back, or driving to a nearby college campus and getting my mile and a half or so in there. Our temps are supposed to go from high in the 80s F, to high in the 60s F, over the next two days. Good time to turn off the AC.

It's been quite mild in Yorkshire at the moment. A refreshing change after the AWFUL winter we went through up there earlier this year!

Grey in London. Our heating came on. I did not go out (very poor.)
Beth - the parks near me aren't big enough to have trails away from the main paths. My nearest parks are the Archbishop's park and Geraldine Mary Harmsworth park (IE The War Museum Park), which my dog used to own (though she allowed other dogs to go in it). Good parks though, both of them.

It sounds like yours are City Parks, Aubrey .. nice but contained in a smaller area ... the kind I like best, actually. The park I go to is defined a County Park that serves several smaller towns (incorporated areas) and spreads out over more acreage. The weather here has turned cooler - much better for outdoor activity. I'm off to walk some today and, then, hopefully plant my bulbs for next spring flowers.

I found a new (to me) bit in the War Museum park today - a path through a small wooded area that used to be a playground (I used to sit on the roundabout and watch my dog sniffing about on the grass). The trees are all quite young, but in 20 years it should be quite a dense little wood.

Oh, you mean it'll be a little private corner? Bet people are standing around, looking at their watches, tapping their shoes, waiting for those trees to grow . Just realized today, DST falls back for you guys one week before it does on this side of the pond. Shall have to keep that in mind. Yesterday was a day of brutal college football games, jaw dropping scores. Today is recovery. Have a good week.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Winter weather has arrived in the Greater Ohio River Valley. The old, "Over the river and through the woods ... " Thanksgiving poem, may actually make sense this year.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Winter weather has arrived in the Greater Ohio River Valley. The old, "Over the river and through the woods ... " Thanksgiving poem, may actually make sense this year. Are you from Ohio too? Today was actually a pretty mild evening. We went out and watched a local Christmas light display nearby tonight, and it was fun. I'm bored, and jobless- at the moment. I can't wait until I get a job, hopefully soon!!
