The reason I stopped coming here was the predictable holy war posts. Religion is banned on my board.

I am talking about posts or threads whose main or only purpose is to rubbish a particular religious belief.
Of course my own faith influences how I feel on loads of issues - you give very good examples, Skylark, of cases where my faith inclines me to take certain positions (just as other people feel that their faith leads them in a different direction).
That doesn't mean that we should tolerate posts where the entire objective appears to be to suggest that adherents of a particular religion - NOT always Islam but usually - are inherently evil and that they barely qualify as human beings.
I am certainly NOT going to put up with nonsense like that and even when the moratorium ends I and my staff will watch like hawks for signs of ANY posts that DO seem to be displaying that type of inappropriate behaviour.
I'm NOT a dictator but I've finally decided to put my foot down.
End of.

Anti -Muslim threads are boring and may well be driving members away
On the other hand, one of the threads I've enjoyed most recently concerns the trainee counsellor who was thrown off her course because of her expressed religious views. I thought it was fairly argued.

I must say that I disagree with this decision.
I've found the Islam comments by Mouse, IamJumbo, and Fretslider to be very thoughtful and worth reading.
I'd also like to complement Ben Lomond for this contribution:
"Surely a board lives, or dies, by having disparate posters posting diverse opinions on any subject under the sun? And if some posters seem slightly xenophobic, or anti Islam, or anti Israel, or anti anything else, then so what? Either respond and criticise, or ignore their rants. Providing there are no vicious attacks of a personal nature, then all this talk of password protected venues is so much random nonsense."
There are quite a few threads that I have no interest in on this board (and most other boards). My solution is not to visit or comment on those threads. I fail to understand why members like Jean and Riotgrrl can't simply bow out of the discussion on Islamic terrorists and related. They have no interest so why comment?
I got tired of visiting boards that were focused on a single topic like the DP. Sometimes that topic is of interest but not always. What I've liked about this board is the wide range of topics and the very diverse opinions of the members. There have been some good debates here. I hate to see one of the most interesting topics shut down.
