Am I the only one getting bored with the endless diatribes against Islam and other religions?
I don't think I am, as posters are drifting away like snow off a dyke as we go over the same old same old day in day out endlessly.
How would posters feel about a one month moratorium on these subjects (unless something NEW happens)? Would it help to attract back the missing posters and perhaps open up new and more interesting topics of conversation?
Your thoughts?

In a new book, Stephen Hawking has altered his previous position, which seemed to accept a divine creator, to argue that the universe is the work of physics, not God. At least he's seen the light, or the big bang.

I don't care what people's religious beliefs are.
What I CAN'T tolerate is:
a) mindless bigoted bashing of people simply BECAUSE of their religious beliefs
b) mindless stereotyping of MILLIONS of people as if there WERE no differences between them.
Are all atheists the same?
Are all agnostics the same?
I'm sick and tired of having to read vitriol, prejudice and ignorance.
When I started this board I used to look forward to visiting it every day - sometimes several times a day.
Now it's become a chore that I positively DREAD.
Each day I wonder how many MORE hate-filled, prejudiced and at times even racist posts I'm going to have to wade through.
I've discussed this in the staff room and even though it goes against all my libertarian principles I'm going to lock ALL existing threads on religious topics.
Any further posts on ANY religious subject will be deleted.
I'm going to try this moratorium for the next month and see how it goes.
I am sorry if this upsets some people but I've had enough.
I've taken an executive decision and maybe not before time!

Of course no one is perfect! People of all faiths and ideologies are struggling to "get it right".
As far as truly evil people go they should be stripped of any religious or ideological names or titles. I certainly understand Muslims, who are offended when for instance bin Laden is called a Muslim! bin Laden should not be allowed to hijack Islam! Let him be given the generic title "evildoer" and banished from humanity!

You're 100% right on Islam and how it's talked about by TOO MANY on here! This evil mindset has just GROWN, unfortunately, since the 9/11 tragedy. 1 part of me doesn't like this ban, because IF I had time, I'd be defending Jesus Christ every chance I get! And ALSO exposing how the apostasy in the Christian Church is worsening. But, overall, I can understand this ban.

I've taken an executive decision and maybe not before time! What I'm so tired of I could scream my head off: this evil lie that Jesus Christ was no good; no one should follow Him; ALL Christians are fake ###*** and out to rip off everyone, etc.; there's no good Christian preachers; NEVER A WORD about the many WONDERFUL things that have come from Christianity; lumping all Christians together in 1 bad group; never mentioning the REAL, DECENT preachers. I could list more things, but won't. To be honest, I'm torn up by the apostasy in the Christian Church. It's getting worse and worse, just as Jesus prophesied. BUT, there's still some good out there and the teachings of Jesus will never die and they never SHOULD! It seems like nearly ALL the boards I've been on this ###*** is constantly there! It's sad and infuriating. I wish I had more time to point out the many positives about Jesus, His teachings, the wonderful things done through Christianity and how my life has changed greatly for the better through Christ's love, discipline, etc. ;D But, while this ban is upsetting, I can also understand it. It's very sad it's come to this!

So, does this mean The Pulpit is closed until further notice? Yes, it does, Beth. It's closed for new postings for the time being and I've locked threads.

I didn't see this thread until after I opened a new thread on Islam.
However, I do disagree (strongly) with this decision.
Islam is pathetic and we need to point that out on this board and everywhere else. Denial is wrong.

BA, I have made my decision.
I couldn't care less WHAT people think about ANY religion - the simple fact is that we've had far too many contentious and hate-filled posts on religious subjects lately.
I've consulted my staff and they fully support my decision to stop any posts on these topics until further notice.
I am the least dictatorial board owner I've ever come across but I've had enough.
People have to get on with their lives and accept it.
Goodness knows there are plenty of OTHER topics to post on!

People's religion influences their thinking on topics - abortion, the death penalty or whatever. Surely they have the right to say so, and other have the right to challenge the basis of their belief - with good manners, of course!

Though I have to accept that the moderators are the ones who have to wade through all that interminable anti-religion rubbish, so the decision should be left to them.

I agree that religion in its widest sense influences all kinds of discussions. In that sense a moratorium would make no sense at all.
However, I believe (and Lin can correct me) that what we are having a moratorium on are threads which cut and paste some blog or article and then use that as a reason for another thread where people compete to say how much they hate Islam.
