They tried to outlaw liquor in America but it was a failure. When the guys saw this poster they decided to just keep on drinking.

it failed because they tried to enforce it it failed because people like to drink and drinking is a human activity far older than and state or any laws it failed just as the commonwealth failed under cromwell..and communism failed in russia because in the end you can only dictate if people allow it what people do of their own free will or by conviction is another matter

It failed for the same reason that prohibition of drugs is failing.
Humans (and some animals) naturally want mind altering substances; trying to stop that (rather than control it) is unnatural and inhuman. Criminalising it is obscene.

I know its evils 1st hand (I'll have 11 years alcohol free in October). However, I'm completely against the "drug war" in the US. I used to be 100% for it until I had a big political awakening after 9/11.

Just as prohibition of alcohol failed - and actually made things WORSE - so too the 'war on drugs' has failed and has made things worse.
We have to legalise drugs just as they did with drinking.

You CAN be against drug use for moral and other reasons (I am STRONGLY against it due greatly in part to all I put myself and others through during my drinking years) and still be AGAINST the drug war. I'm also strongly against any abuse of prescription drugs. I think ANY drug use is ONLY OK if it's for a TRUE health problem.

I used to be a heavy drug user - I took blow, whizz, Es, and (once) smack.
I know from first hand experience how it doesn't do you any good.
I've also been a heavy drinker and know from personal experience how alcoholism doesn't do you any good either.
The thing is that there are LOTS of things which don't do you any good in excess but that doesn't mean that they should therefore be BANNED.

Great point about the addicted babies. That's so sad and could be 100% prevented if people just didn't fall for the LIE that drugs are great, fun, etc.

But drugs are fun, great, etc: why do you think people take them? My experience with drugs has been wholly positive. For most people it is. You can't tell these people that their experience is a lie. That is what has always been the problem with various Govts' drug policies.
The drugs that are dangerous are dangerous because they are illegal. Heroin, for eg, is quite safe when taken properly, in measured doses and unadulterated. Most deaths are from contamination or accidental overdoses (getting a purer dose than you expected: this is what did for Sid Vicious).
Cannabis is not really dangerous (nothing is completely safe). Ecstacy is safer than horse riding.
And isn't the crack baby thing largely a myth? They are doomed more because of their circumstances - and being treated as a crack baby - than their mother taking drugs.

no the drug adicted baby is no myth...there is no mistaking a drug adicted baby......nothing to do with circumstances..adiction is adiction..neither are the ones who are starved by mother who would rather have their fix than buy food for the children...neither is it a myth of the abuse of children by drug adicted parents.. so as long as the drug is mesured out alls well with the world..yeah right...and all the misery and crime before we get to the stage of measuring out our little fix...what about that what of all the lives ruined..the despair..what about the effect on the moral and the morals...what about the effect on the economy i love it when those who keep their fix under control blythly ignore all those whose lives are destroyed and the lives of their families wrecked its a bigger problem than some one in the west needing the excitment that drugs give to while away the time in their needy little lives......the problems drugs bring far out weigh the kick it gives some spoil westerner

It failed because booze went underground, right into the hands of the gangs like Al Capone's. They weren't afraid of the cops or the judiciary (because many of them were on the gangs' payrolls) and they sure as hell weren't afraid of a group of wowsers.
Give the people what they want and they'll keep coming back for more. And they did. The only country that had Prohibition was the US - what did the US govt really think, the rest of the world drank soda because the US said its citizens couldn't legally drink booze anymore?

Even a mainstream, apolitical and very popular writer like PG Wodehouse assumed, in his American stories, that the prohibition laws were nothing more than a minor inconvenience for someone wanting a drink. He has several stories with people going into speakeasies or hiding their booze from the police.

well you have it your way that drug adicted babies is a myth...i happen to know without any shadow of doubt or fear of contradiction drug adicted babies are born,,some survive others do not try watching a new born going through witdrawal..watch small bodies fitting, try explaining the the horrendous disabilities some of these babies have to live their lives with....,then come back and tell me its a myth....try telling that to the medical teams..the social workers..the long term cares but hey what do the agonies of babies matter as long as drugs are available to those in denial of the damage drugs do to individuals,,society as a whole no worries as long as the drug ussers get their fix... even terrorism would ratchet down a notch or too if it were not for drugs...yup...so would crime be greatly reduced..child abuse..the economy...drug ussers fuel far more than simply their own adiction ..or the induced high...
