I'm sure he is a suspect as the family always are but I'm curious about what it is about him that makes you say that. So, why? Let's keep in mind that Jessica Lunsford's father was the number one suspect, until this predator, who murdered Jessica, was arrested! Jessica's Dad actually flunked the polygraph test too, but he was innocent from day 1! Of course but let's also keep in mind the reason family are always suspects. Statistics show that it's a good bet.

Mindy sez I personally have a 5 year old daughter and live in a ranch house. Call me paranoid, but I do keep my windows shut and locked during hot summer nights and keep the air-conditioning on. You can't be too careful these days! Especially with all these horror stories of child abductions through windows or unlocked doors. I've always done that too, Mindy. Not only safer, but keeps the allergies at bay. My youngest is now 13, and I'm still pretty vigilant. I mentioned this elsewhere, but it bears repeating. There's a true crime book all parents of girls should read. Just when you think all is safe and well, other kids can turn out to be a deadly threat. www.amazon.com/Cruel-Sacrifice-Aphrodite-Jones/dp/0786010630/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234491185&sr=1-1 I, also, hate to be paranoid, and I don't make a big deal out of being watchful and aware, but I certainly invite my child to share what goes on in her life and am never too trusting. As a child my bedroom was on the 2nd floor and the window was always open in the summer, unless a storm was coming! I know the Lindbergh child was taken by a predator who used a ladder to reach the upstairs open bedroom window. I was very hyperactive as a child too-always running off and wearing down my parents nerves! My mother used to play the Tschaikovski's Ballad of Sleeping Beauty, which i loved and would waltz too, if she had to leave me unattended for a moment in the back yard! It was typical for me to get on my tricycle and go on a far away adventure, if i was bored, and my parents would call the police to try to find me. I remember one time when i was about 3 when i peddled my tricycle to a factory about 3 miles away because it aroused my curiousity with the all the smoke it made! That was the first time i ended up in a police car! True Haleigh is certainly not as wild and adventurous as i was as a child, but any parent having a child like i was should have plenty of understanding and an admission that it's impossible to protect your child 100% 24 hours a day 7 days a week and 365 days a year! Any parent who feels obligated to forefill this idealistic, but unrealistic goal and has a child like i was would suffer a nervous breakdown! If I had a two story house I would keep the bedroom windows in my house opened at night too. But I don't. I have a ranch, one story house. And believe me, if there's any window that's not going to opened at night in my house, it's my daughter's. True, I shut all the windows before bed and turn the air-conditioning on if it's too hot. I'm not going to make it easier for some predator to get my daughter. My house is kept safe. You have to KEEP your children safe this day and age. And I'm determined to do just that. Prevention is the key... I understand things can happen no matter how careful people are, but you still have to watch your kids closely these days...

it's not my responsibility to lock the door. it is YOUR responsibility to stay the hell out Ah yes, but it doesn't work like that in practise so it's my responsibility to guard against you neglecting your responsibility. In theory, a sound practice, and in my case, I would never enter your home without permission but then, I am not a burglar and motivated by drugs to get what I can from what belongs to you. I lock all my doors with a deadbolt and then put dowels in the windows to ensure no one come in that way. Now we are looking forward to six hundred parolees who like to deal drugs, steal cars and burglarize homes so I will take more precautions. I have a car alarm system but still use the "club"....trying not to have any surprises in the morning We still have to take steps to ensure our safety and that the insurance company will pay because we took precautions.

Sadly, we live in a world where we have to distrust our neighbours. It's a great shame. I have a good story about a neighbor. I had recieved a big ups package and it was left on my front door but the neighbor was watching when I came home and intervened and told me about the package as I go to the mailbox first and then enter by my backdoor rather than the front.....so he was covering my back and I appreciated that. They are from some other country and have a huge name I cannot for the life of me pronounce, but all of that is forgotten in being old fashioned neighbors watching our for each other. I think the young men upstairs make to much noise, but one is awake all night as his work hours are different but I also believe someone with lights on above keeps me safe below.

In an interview bother the father of Haleigh and his girl friend were interviewed! They insisted that the back door was indeed locked and an intruder must have picked the lock. They both passed the polygraph test! It was also revealed that 44 registered sex offenders live in a 5 mile radius of their home! www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,492185,00.html QUOTE: VAN SUSTEREN: Misty, had you been the one to block that back door? CROSLIN: No, I did not lock the back door because the back door is always locked. We really do not use the back door. CUMMINGS: Absolutely. VAN SUSTEREN: What kind of lock is on that back door? Is it a deadbolt? Do you need a key, or is there a know on the inside? How do you work that back door lock? CUMMINGS: There is a lock on the knob on the inside, and it has a deadbolt also. The deadbolt is very hard to get unlocked once you get it locked. You have to push in hard on the door, and a child would never get that unlocked. VAN SUSTEREN: Misty--go ahead. I'm sorry, Ronald. CUMMINGS: I do keep it locked. I do check it every afternoon before I leave for work. It is always locked, always. VAN SUSTEREN: Misty, do you ever use that doo yourself, go in and out that door? CROSLIN: I mean, once in awhile I will take the garbage out through the back door, or leave through the back door and take a vacuum and vacuum the car out. But that is the only time we use the back door. VAN SUSTEREN: Ronald, I understand that there does not appear to be any forced entry into the home in that back door. So how do you think it got open? CUMMINGS: I honestly don't have any clue. I don't have any clue. Somebody, maybe a locksmith, picklock artist, I do not know. But it was definitely locked, and somebody came in through it. So I cannot explain it. VAN SUSTEREN: Misty, let me ask you this same question. Misty, how do you think that door got open? CROSLIN: Someone had either picked the lock, they would have had to pick the lock. That is the only way that anybody could have gotten in our back door is if they picked the lock. VAN SUSTEREN: I know you both took a polygraph today. Did they say you were deceptive or not on the polygraph. Did they tell you how your results were? How were yours, Ronald? CUMMINGS: Absolutely, they did. And it was not today that we took a polygraph. We took the polygraph yesterday. And, yes, we both did pass. VAN SUSTEREN: Misty, what did they say about your results? CROSLIN: You mean that I passed? VAN SUSTEREN: Did they use the word "pass," or did they say there was no sign of deception? CUMMINGS: They told me that I passed. CROSLIN: They really did not say much to me. VAN SUSTEREN: Well, we are hopeful that putting the spotlight on this, people will call in tips if they know anything at all about this child, because I know that you both want her back very badly. Ronald, Misty, thank you, and let's hope we get some good news soon. Thank you both very much. CUMMINGS: Thank you. CROSLIN: Thank you.

'Items of Interest' Lead to Dead End in Search for Missing Florida Girl Saturday, February 14, 2009 www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,493106,00.html After revealing Friday that they had found "items of interest" in the search for missing 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings, Florida police said Saturday the clues turned out to be unrelated to the girl's disappearance. Even so, police remain optimistic, Chief Deputy Rick Ryan of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department said in a news conference, and investigators continue to interview family members, their friends and others. Everyone is considered a potential person of interest. "The family has been extremely cooperative and happy with our efforts," Chief Deputy Ryan said. He said they will continue to search areas to make sure they have not missed anything. "We're frustrated, of course, but the No. 1 mission is to find the little girl and return her to her family. We haven't lost our motivation or our drive." Click here for photos. Haleigh was discovered missing from her home Tuesday morning by her father's girlfriend, Misty Croslin. The father, Ronald Cummings, said Haleigh had gotten up to use the bathroom, and when she didn't return, Croslin went to look for her and noticed the back door of the mobile home they shared was open. Police haven't narrowed down a list of suspects in the case, and they have received more than 350 leads. "All the sex offenders (in the area) have been interviewed and their residences have been searched," Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy said earlier. "They're cleared as far as us contacting them and speaking to them." Cummings and Croslin told FOX News' Greta Van Susteren earlier this week that they both had submitted to polygraphs and "passed" the tests. Sheriff's officials would not release the results. Croslin has told different stories to police and the media about what happened, according to MyFOXOrlando.com. Police had never been called to the home in the past, but there have been investigations by a social services agency involving Cummings, Croslin and Haleigh and her 3-year-old brother Junior, according to Putnam County Capt. Steve Rose. He wouldn't elaborate. John Harrell, spokesman for the northeast region of the Florida Department of Children and Families, said Thursday that his agency "was involved with the family." He wouldn't offer any details, citing state confidentiality laws. In addition to Croslin and Cummings, the child's mother, Crystal Sheffield, has been questioned in the case.

So the 17 year old girlfriend has told different stories to the police and to the media? And the police told the father that he passed the polygraph, but said nothing to the girlfriend?
HMMMM...does anyone else think she's suspicious?

Why aren't statuatory charges of rape being filed against this man since he is banging a minor?
Isn't he a sex offender?

Good point, Chris. She is underage...maybe they're looking into it. From some news stories that I've read, there's a lot of dysfunction in this familiy, as well as in the 17 year old girlfriend's family.
First, the father has custody of Haleigh...which you have to admit is unusual for a man to have custody these days, instead of the mother. I've also read that the father of Haleigh also has custody of his girlfriend's 3 year old brother.

does this sound like the typical "bubba" we think of when we think of Florida?
I mean no offense, but I had to work with many of these backwoods type people when I lived in florida and that was also another reason to get back to California

HMMMM...does anyone else think she's suspicious? I think it's odd that the girlfriend claimed Haleigh got up to use the restroom then when she went to check on her she wasn't in her bed. Where did Haleigh end up then after she left the restroom? She's basically claiming that she was UP when Haleigh got taken. That doesn't sound right to me.

www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,495384,00.html QUOTE: As the search for Haleigh Cummings enters its eighth day, authorities are following up on a tip disputing the story of the 17-year-old girlfriend in the case, MyFOXOrlando.com reported. Investigators on Wednesday told the station that they're looking into a report that Misty Croslin, the girlfriend of Haleigh's father Ronald Cummings, was not home when the girl disappeared last Tuesday. The tip is one of 1,200 leads pouring in. The sheriff's office dispatch center is overloaded, and callers are now being referred to Crime Stoppers, Capt. Dick Schauland said in a Wednesday news conference, adding that investigators are looking into the report. "We're not prepared to release information about what we’re following up on because we’re concerned about the safety of this child," Capt. Schauland said. Croslin has told different stories to police and the media about the timing of her discovery that Haleigh was gone and where she and the child were in the mobile home the night the little girl vanished. Capt. Steve Rose of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that police are focusing on the timeline Croslin has given them in the case. "We're still working on the timeline, but we're not going to divulge [specifics] at this time," he said. "We feel pretty confident about when the girlfriend last saw Haleigh. That’s the timeline we’re focusing on." Schauland said that investigators are following up on the leads as well as they're able and speaking with the missing girl's family "as warranted." Ronald Cummings, 24, said Haleigh had gotten up to use the bathroom, and when she didn't return, Croslin went to look for her and noticed that the back door of the mobile home they shared was open. Cummings said he'd just come home from work when Haleigh disappeared. Police haven't narrowed down a list of suspects in the case, and they have received more than 350 leads. "All the sex offenders [in the area] have been interviewed and their residences have been searched," Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy said earlier. "They're cleared as far as us contacting them and speaking to them." Cummings and Croslin told FOX News' Greta Van Susteren last week that they both had submitted to polygraphs and "passed" the tests. Sheriff's officials would not release the results. Rose said several of those questioned have taken lie detector tests. Rose wouldn't comment on what authorities have learned about the sequence of events before and after the child was discovered missing. Police had never been called to the home in the past, but there have been investigations by a social services agency involving Cummings, Croslin and Haleigh and her 4-year-old brother Junior, according to Rose. He hasn't revealed the nature of those cases. The Florida Department of Children and Families confirmed that the agency "was involved with the family," but wouldn't disclose details, citing confidentiality laws. In addition to Croslin and Cummings, the child's mother, Crystal Sheffield, also has been questioned in the case.

It's dead easy to beat a polygraph. When Mike was at uni he had a friend who was a psychology student who showed him how to do it.

MVSs and the parents of missing children often behave erractically! I remember how the mother of the missing Minnesota pre-teen Leanna Warner broke into a house after crackpots psychics told her that Leanna was held captive there and was being tortutured! I really don't know how to judge this desperate father! www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,537639,00.html QUOTE: Father of Missing Florida Girl Haleigh Cummings Arrested on Burglary Charges Thursday , August 06, 2009 The father of a missing north Florida girl is being held at the Putnam County Jail after the sheriff's office said he got into a fight with his wife's brother. Ronald Cummings, 25, was arrested early Thursday morning after getting into an altercation with Hank Croslin Jr., according to the sheriff's office. Cummings is married to Misty Croslin. He was being held in the Putnam County Jail on $12,004 bond on a charge of burglary with assault after making his initial court appearance. Court records did not list an attorney. According to a press release from the sheriff's office, three members of the Croslin family showed up about 11:30 p.m. at the double wide mobile home in Welaka where Cummings, his wife and his grandmother, Annette Sykes, live. A verbal dispute escalated into a fight between Cummings and Hank Croslin Jr. Misty told deputies she was hit in the face twice by Hank Jr. and her father, Hank Sr., because she was trying to break up the fight. Hank Croslin Jr. was complaining of neck and head pains and was taken to Putnam Community Medical Center. On the way to jail, Ronald Cummings said he wanted to press charges against Hank Croslin Jr. and Hank Croslin Sr., the sheriff's office said. Charging affidavits signed by Cummings will be reviewed by the State Attorney's Office. Haleigh Cummings, 5, vanished Feb. 10 from her father's mobile home, just outside the community of Satsuma. She has not been found. Authorities learned of Haleigh's disappearance in a 911 call from Misty Croslin, who was babysitting Haleigh and her younger brother. She said she awoke about 3 a.m. and noticed the kitchen light was on and the back door of the mobile home was propped open with a brick and Haleigh was missing. Despite extensive searches and a $35,000 reward, Haleigh has not been found.
