Pray for Haleigh Ann-Marie Cummings' safe return! www.news4jax.com/news/18680086/detail.html QUOTE: 5-Year-Old Vanishes From Bedroom; Father Says She Was 'Stolen' Detective: 'Whoever Has The Child Is Not Supposed To Have The Child' POSTED: Tuesday, February 10, 2009 UPDATED: 5:53 pm EST February 10, 2009 SATSUMA, Fla. -- More than 130 law enforcement personnel from several local and state agencies are searching for a 5-year-old girl who disappeared from her home in Satsuma before dawn Tuesday. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said Haleigh Ann-Marie Cummings was last seen at 10 p.m. Monday when her father's girlfriend put her to bed at their home on Green Lane, off Buffalo Bluff Road. While deputies and state officers from at least five agencies searched the area and the nearby St. Johns River, Haleigh's grieving father told Channel 4 there is no doubt in his mind that she was abducted and he'll do anything to get her back. Ronald Cummings said Haleigh is afraid of the dark and there's no way she would have gone out in the middle of the night by herself. "I came home this morning to find that I didn't have a child," Cummings. "Somebody stole my child." Putnam County deputies began a search of the area at 3:30 a.m. after the mother found the girl missing and Cummings came home from working a night shift and found back door of their mobile home open and called 911. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an endangered/missing alert before 9 a.m. Less than two hours later, authorities upgraded it to an Amber Alert. While Putnam County deputies said there was no sign of forced entry in the residence, they requested that the FDLE elevate the incident to an Amber Alert.

The first person the police should question is the father's girlfriend who put the child to bed. A young child could easily answer a knock at the back door. So, where is the child's mother? The bio mom would be the second person questioned by the police.

How come people don't lock their doors? I'm sure Jessica Lunsford`s father will hear that painful question about locking doors the rest of his life! The predator who abducted and murdered Roxanne Doll simply opened the window to her bedroom from the outside..The monster, who abducted and murdered 3 year old Amy Sue Seitz simply walked into the house during the day when Amy was watching cartoons and carried her off! How many parents lock their homes during the day? If a predator is stalking your child they have a good chance to find an oppurtunity to strike! I hope all registered predators in the area have their places searched!

My doors and windows were locked at night and the dog took care of the daytime protection..he was a large shepard/collie.
I'm sorry, but take saftey precautions as we don't live in the fifties anymore and children disappear because of parental oversight.

Most parents do have unattentive moments where their child is vulnerable to a stalking predator! The margin of human error however slim is inevitable and will enable the predator to strike! We should permanently segregate violent predators from society to reduce such tragedies! I hope that Haleigh was abducted by someone wishing to give Haleigh's mother custody of her! The other possibilities are much more frightening!

There are far to many trusting folks who are needlessly losing their children because they don't take the warnings seriously.

The predator who abducted and murdered 12 year old Kimberly Leach took her forcefully from her school! The dumbfounded witnesses assumed that the predator was her father, who was angry about something, and didn't intervene! Dru Sjodin was abducted in a busy parking lot where the potential witnesses and potential crime stoppers were preoccupied with their own affairs! In a 24 hour day 7 days a week the predator will find chances to strike! A car breaking down in a lonely place, opening a door to a "soliticer"and predators take calculated risks too.. It's very wrong to try to place the blame on the victims and the victim's parents...and if we live in fear because of the predators at large we don't win either! The inevitable margin of human error is everywhere! True if doors and windows are locked it makes matters more difficult for the predator, but doors and windows can be forced open.. The problem is not that some people are at times trusting or careless, but that predators have been négligently released into society! An isolated work colony in Alaska would be a good way to seperate them permanently from society!

This case does remind me of the Jessica Lunsford case. A little girl abducted from her unlocked trailer.
I do hope every single home in that area that's got a sex offender living in it gets searched! If Couey's home would have been searched sooner, Jessica would have been found alive.

I kept a huge dog and took every precaution so my children were safe in our home.....if people want to play at make believe then this is the price they pay......a abducted child more than likely dead. Parents need to take responsibility for the welfare of their children in their home. Would you let your child walk through a wooded area known to be home to bears and mountain lions? Sexual predators are just like those wild animals....so we need to take precautions as they aren't going away and to think so is to wish in one hand and shyt in the other, and I will guarantee which will fill first. Yes, it would be nice to leave eveyrthing unlocked but that is not the way the world works anymore so if parents are lax, they have themselves to blame in the process also.

Dearest Chefmate! Even if you feel you stand above the "margin of human error" that could make things easier for a predator-which would mean you never make wrong decisions, your car never breaks down where it shouldn't and you are never the victim of unforeseen circumstances....One serial killer simply rammed cars with females, obliging them to stop for the "accident"-or would you risk a hit and run charge??!
If a predator at large is targeting your child and stalking him/her..Even if you do everything humanely possible to prevent this a determined predator will eventually have a chance to abduct your child! Only people who never had children to care for don't understand what i'm saying! These predators usually can't be compared to wolves or bears! They are demons of the worst sort and often very clever!
Yes we can take all the safety measures possible and maybe the predator may decide to take another child instead of ours, but the problem my friend is having predators at large in our society!

I hope all registered predators in the area have their places searched! Because of conversations I've had on other messageboards about the case of poor Madeleine McCann, and what sounded like similarities, I went to google for info on the cases you mention. I don't know more than a quick google told me but the Seattle Times court reports say that the killer, Clark, was in fact drinking with the father of the child and was in the house already. It seems that he killed her after the father fell asleep on the couch and then continued to hang around the house. It's not an abduction via an unlocked window, exactly. Befriending for the purpose of abduction or just plain opportunism, yes. (Correct me, by all means.) There is also a report saying that he had taken a child not long before so why he was even free to be drinking with neighbours in the first place is the pertinent question. It's true. But burglary is carried out on the same basis and we have house alarms etc to limit the opportunities. What also seems to be true is that child abductions are often undertaken by someone who is related or has befriended the family, cunning people that know the routines and the moments when the guard is down. I don't know how one can guard against this except to always be wary, always be vigilante... In the case of Roxanne Doll, the parents were far too lax but their biggest mistake was not to know that Clark was a danger.

How come people don't lock their doors? That call to the police, the one posted after your post, says that the backdoor is always locked.

The idea of locking all doors and windows worries me a lot. People need to be much more fire consious than they are; turning the place into Fort Knox will reduce the time you have to escape from a blaze. Besides, if the only adult in the house becomes unconscious, how are rescuers to get in? Not to mention the fact that house need to be ventilated - I couldn't possibly sleep in the summer with the window closed.
As for using dogs as protectors - fine if you know and understand them. Leaving a dog alone with a small child is a bad idea, as several British stories have recently highlighted.

How come people don't lock their doors? it's not my responsibility to lock the door. it is YOUR responsibility to stay the hell out I agree! As a child i also preferred to sleep by an open window in summer for the fresh air! It's unhealthy to breath in house dust all the time! Window stickers like this do deter some predators! In the US you can at least defend yourself against intruding predators! In Europe you go to jail for killing an intruding predator and it's extremely hard to PROVE self defense, because the judical system just assumes that the predator had no intention of harming anyone!! If you only injure the predator in Europe expect criminal charges and a big civil law suit on behalf of the predator!

I don't know about the rest of Europe but it certainly isn't the case in Britain. There are many cases where householders have tackled burglars causing injury and not been charged. You just don't hear about them. I tried to find a link to a leaflet explaining the action you can take to defend your home but just got the press reports: police guidance
