Labour MPs are to oppose a bill that would bring reform to the voting system. Mmmm, now wasn't reform of the voting system in their suicide note! As Labour say, opportunism knocks.
We know its all about them and not about us, the people. Democracy is little more than a word to be bandied around when needed. The decision by the Labour shadow cabinet to oppose the bill is spearheaded by the veteran lying bastard Jack Straw. Labour's decision followed extended discussions within the shadow cabinet, which had previously intended to abstain from the vote on the recommendation of John Denham, the shadow communities and local government secretary.
And what annoys Labour so much? Basic fairness, that's what. They oppose the idea that constituencies should have equal numbers of voters. God forbid we should have a decent democracy after all its not in their interest is it.

Only because it is piggy backed with clauses that dramatically change the boundaries for constituencies.
If the ConDems took that bit out Labour would back it
Just as they said before the election

It's not much of a reform, that's the problem.
It is not 'proportional' in any sense.
It's the LibDems who have sold out most, in fact, since PR was always one of their most cherished policies.

There were, mouse. And more are planned. Noboduy minds a debate about the best possible size of a political unit, and how many voters should be in it.
But in this case they are cynically using it as a way to get Labour to vote No (because they dont want it either, but they have to provide a sop to the Libbys)
