In Stuttgart, Germany there's an Austrailian resturant where you can find Crocodile, Kangaroo and other exotic Austrailian animals on the menu! That's probably not exotic for an Austrailian though.

I've had alligator and it wasn't bad but I wouldn't try it again; buffalo burgers are tasty

How do you really know that is what you are getting though??? Couldn't they really just kind of slap anything on there and tell you it was something else?

I suppose a DNA test on cooked meat wouldn't work.
In Germany resturants are inspected and closed down, if something's wrong. It's hard to know for sure what dishonest or incompetent resturant owners do behind the scenes.

In Britain, trading standard officers deal with restaurants that sell food that isn't what they says it is. But unlike health inspectors (who deal with bad food and poor hygiene) they don't make spot checks and just react to complaints.
Forty or so years ago I used to buy cheap mince from a local trader and once asked him what it was, because it didn't taste like beed. He told me it was kangaroo. Nowadays he'd probably be made to label it as such.

I guess they have ways you test for that......just as the casual consumer.....I wouldn't know what to look for or what it would taste like......seems like it would be easy to maybe put something in the meat to make it have a different taste. People probably buy it for a gag more than anything else.....so they fix it in an odd or special way. The odds they are going to take it back are slim......seems like you could scam people for quite awhile......have some real stuff for inspectors..............don't know......maybe I'm just too suspicious.

Restaurant food in China bears little or no resemblance to the Europeanised or even anglicised food you find at home. Rare chicken with feet and neck, sea-slug, snake and quite a few unidentified creatures.

..the US TV series "The Beverly Hillbillies", which was rerun for decades, until finally being classified as "politically incorrect". I have never heard that before; what aspects of the show attracted those accusations?

I think there is still a channel that runs that show..........can't remember which one I have seen it on......not a huge fan of the show.......
Crawdads are very common in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas.........they are kinda seasonal.....when I do visit my sister in Arkansas a friend of her's has a business cooking crawdads......I'm trying to remember the name......it's really cute.........(I just know I'm going to remember at 2 or 3 in the morning)......and they only open up for a couple of months a year making them......I love to be visiting during that time......we always order and go get a few pounds.....and it comes with potatoes, corn on the cob.....it's really spicy......and we eat until we can't hardly move!!!

Yes. The term Hillbilly is - as the PC nutters would have it - derogatory and should be replaced with 'mountain-dweller'.

If the mountain dwellers themselves object to the term then it is only polite to respect their view and refer to them in whichever way they prefer. The idea that PC nutters have prevented anyone from watching this show is ludicrous as five minutes worth of googling will amply demonstrate.

You asked "Can anybody think of a reason why... "
I gave you a possibility, either way I couldn't care less if it was censored by the PC nutters or not. It was a load of old bilge, anyway.

Well.....the pc police are complete idiots.......the Cartoon Network will not run Speedy Gonzales cartoons because they believe it is hurtful or something to Mexicans............therefore you can not see any of those cartoons unless you manage to find them on dvd or something........
Take a wild guess what one of the #1 cartoons in Mexico happens to be.........................

The Beverly Hillbillies believed that the South won the Civil War and would display the Confederate flag at times! Humourous in my opinion, but politically dangerous in the eyes of the PC nutters!

That argument is just as ridiculous because, as I have said already, the show is not censored; you can buy it on dvd and watch it in lots of places like the internet. If your gripe is that it's not on prime-time television then I'd think the reason for that is because modern audiences wouldn't be that interested in a black and white show that's over forty years old; there are (slightly) more sophisticated and fresher things to watch now. I think that it's the advertisers that have the real power not some imaginary PC hit-squad.

The Clampetts all had their shotguns, except Critter lover Ellie May! Granny shown above was in charge of "shotgun weddings"! Uncle Jed and Jethro would go "Possum hunting" with their shotguns in the Beverly Hills neighborhood! Not the kind of show gun control advocates would approve of! ;D
I think i'd pass on eating an Opossum though! Ellie May shown below has an Opossum on her shoulder!

Exactly.
Nobody is offended by this little ol' show. It's not on the TV any more solely because it is past its sell-by date.
No conspiracy, nothing to do with political correctness, we've just moved on is all.
