These results have varied a lot in the last years. 2 Years ago Chicago was ranked as America's fattest city and Salt Lake City, Utah was ranked the fittest last year, but both cities have fallen down in the rankings.www.upi.com/Health_News/2010/04/20/Corpus-Christi-Texas-fattest-US-city/UPI-66591271803353/ QUOTE: Corpus Christi, Texas, fattest U.S. city Published: April 20, 2010 at 6:42 PM NEW YORK, April 20 (UPI) -- The magazine Men's Health, which calculated the top 100 "Fattest U.S. Cities," found four of the top 10 fattest cities are in Texas. They also looked at physical fitness levels, the amount of money spent on junk food and how many people ate fast food nine or more times in one month. The top 10 fattest cities ranked by Men's Health are: 1 ) Corpus Christi, Texas 2 ) Charleston, W.Va. 3 ) El Paso, Texas 4 ) Dallas 5 ) Memphis, Tenn. 6 ) Kansas City, Mo. 7 ) San Antonio 8 ) Baltimore, Maryland 9 ) Birmingham, Ala. The leanest cities are: 1 ) Aurora, Colo. 2 ) Denver 3 ) Cincinnati; 4 ) Portland, Ore. 5 ) Albuquerque, New Mexico 6 ) Austin, Texas 7 ) Seattle; Washington 8 ) Burlington, Vt. 9 ) San Francisco

Dear me - one of my relations hails from one of the top (or should it be bottom?) fattest. She always gives the impression that Texans are hooked on eating huge steaks rather than fast food, but I dare say the former isn't much more healthy than the latter.
She wasn't overweight when she came to Britain though; she's put on a good few pounds since!

My area is second from the top on the fittest, and I'm not surprised. If anyone has the nerve to admit they don't walk, long and often, they are risking frowns and boos. I walk, but not as much as some who speed-walk by my house at the crack of dawn, rain or shine. And yet, we have massive numbers of fast food eateries.

Instead of consuming and then expelling calories in that gloriously wasteful way they should get hooked up to treadmills and offer their power to the local electricity company
there are gyms near us with windowed walls with rols and rows of runners, cross country skiers, cyclists etc, all furiously pumping away
Really, they could power a small town.

Who measures this and how do they do it anyway? Door to door?

Who measures this and how do they do it anyway? Door to door? There are a number of groups that attempt to classify cities by eating habits, the number of type 2 diabetics, etc..Maybe the number of Chinese resturants helped San Franscisco get on the fit list. As far as fastfood resturants go McDonalds and Burger King do have acceptable salads for the health conscious. I think the donut shops and greasy no name fast food places are much worse.
San Antonio has been working to get off the fat list so these surveys do some good. www.kens5.com/news/Boxing-legend-Leija-Castro-working-to-get-San-Antonio-off-fattest-cities-list-92682199.html
