Don Lester, Ellen's boyfriend
Carla O'Grady, journalist, friend of Ellen, Francesca and Jamie
Sylvia Burns, victim's girlfriend
Conchita Fernandez, witness; waitress
Quincy Johnson, witness; car park attendant
Terri Sullivan, witness; tenant in Apartment 26
Background:
Adam Gordon is a big-time drug dealer. He is found murdered and his girlfriend calls the LAPD. Two female homicide detectives, Ellen Dubois and Francesca Montini her partner, are sent to investigate.
Ellen (known as Ellie) and Francesca (known as Frankie) are friends like partners in the police force often are. A promotion to sergeant is in the offing and both girls have applied for it. They are also friendly with Jamie Kemp, the Assistant DA, and with Carla O'Grady, an ambitious journalist who is a friend of all the other women.
The Lieutenant, Mark Mitchell, is under pressure to solve the crime quickly because the Mayor is up for re-election and wants to be able to go to the polls with a big collar to his name.
Jamie also harbours ambitions to handle the case because she wants to become the next DA of the city.
Clues: A bottle of perfume is found in the dead man's apartment that didn't come from his girlfriend. He was shot twice with a 38 Special. A large number of fingerprints are found at the scene, several of them unidentified.
Game: OK, now it's your turn. It might be fun if we ran this as an interactive story where members wrote a bit of the 'script' each time and other members respond to it.
I'll start off with the murder scene.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ellen Dubois and Francesca Montini had just arrived at the apartment in Los Angeles where yet another murder had taken place. They were busy examining the scene and asking around to see if there were any witnesses.
'Gang related?' Ellen suggested.
'Could be,' said Francesca. 'I've found quite a stash of coke in the victim's bathrooom. Still, we gotta go through the motions, don't we?'
Francesca was slightly older than Ellen at 30 years to her 28. Both women had been working homicide for a while now and were regular partners. Now they gazed at the crime scene, trying to make sense of it. Each knew this could be the case that, if they cracked it, meant that one of them would be in line for a sergeant's job.
'I'll go find the building super,' said Francesca. 'Maybe he knows something.'
'Good idea, Frankie. You want I should come?'
'No, no need, Ellie. You just keep right on doing what you're doing. I doubt we'll find much anyway. Still, we gotta try else the Lieutenant is gonna bust both our asses!'
'He surely will,' Ellen agreed.
Lieutenant Mark Mitchell was a man who oozed bulk. Tall and heavy-built, he also had a way of shouting and trying to put the fear of God into the cops who worked on his time. Underneath that gruff exterior, he was a fair man who genuinely respected his officers. Right now the Mayor, with election time looming, was breathing down his neck to clean up the city's crime wave and he'd want fast results on this case.
Francesca went up to the office and knocked on the door of the buiding's supervisor.
'Officer Montini, Homicide,' she said, producing her badge. 'You the super here?'
'Yes, ma'am,' he answered, seeming surprised to see a lady cop. 'What happened?'
'One of your tenants got murdered, that's what. Apartment 28. Name of Adam Gordon. What was your name?'
'Oh, sorry, Charlie Greene,' the big black super answered. 'Gordon, huh? Didn't see too much of him to be honest. Kept pretty much to hisself if you knows what I mean.'
'Yeah, sure. Any visitors?'
'Not so many, no. He had a girl come round to stay with him most weekends.'
'Gotta name?'
'Sylvia something - yeah, I got it, Sylvia Burns.'
'OK, Mr Greene, we'll get back to you if we need anything. If you can think of anything at all that might help us please call the precinct. Here's my card.'
'You got it!' he smiled.
------------------------------------------------------------------------- Over to you now, guys!

The crime scene investigators arrive.. After dusting for fingerprints and covering the body, they sit down to wait for the coroner to examine the body, bag it and take it out of the apartment. There was no blood spatter to trace. Adam Gordon's skull had been crushed - bludgeoned with a heavy object. There was nothing in apartment 28 that could be immediately identified as the murder weapon. The Detectives loaded up mail, random papers and correspondence, drugs and medications, clothing and sundry items - including a bottle of perfume. They also packed the victim's laptop computer and cell phone. Sylvia Burns is asked to come with Dubois and Montini to the station for a formal interview. She agrees, but immediately calls an attorney to meet her there.
