crime.about.com/b/2010/04/20/killer-pleads-guilty-in-eve-carson-case.htmI can't see this one. Either execution is the right sentence (which I believe it is) or it isn't. I don't believe that murderers should be able to cop plea bargains simply to avoid the death penalty when another defendant who refuses to do that gets executed. I'd execute murderers though (as quite a few members know by now) I favour changes in the law to prevent certain killings which are presently regarded as murder but IMHO should NOT be looked on like that. This plea bargain stuff really bugs me; it led to two of my mates getting banged up while the REAL offenders went scot free!

I don't believe that murderers should be able to cop plea bargains simply to avoid the death penalty when another defendant who refuses to do that gets executed. But that's the whole concept of plea agreements. The justice system wants everything done smoothly and cost efficiently; those who want their case to go to trial have a 50/50 chance of either being acquitted or receiving a harsher sentence. That's why a defendant who doesn't take a plea will receive the DP as a sentencing option when found guilty. I hate plea bargaining in Canada, only because we don't have the DP. I would be content if a person would trade the DP for LWOP in exchange for testifying against a partner. In this case, no one would walk free. in your friends case, did the ones that got off scot free take their chances in court? Because the thing about plea bargaining is that it is just a suggestion. The person still has a chance to turn it down; no one can force someone to take a plea, and in most cases pleas benefit a person.

Oh, I know how hard it must be from the prosecutor's side of the fence, Novak. I guess I'm just venting!
God knows, sometimes you don't have enough evidence to convict accomplices without the testimony of snitches or whatever. I know that.
Sometimes I think half the trouble is I still have a little bit of idealism left in me!
