Today I received a letter from a former local postmaster.
She writes...
When the Post Office decided to close 8 local post offices in the area, including hers, she contacted Sadiq Khan MP (government whip) for help, which he duly promised. She was astonished that he whipped Labour MPs into voting for the closures and then rushed back from the vote to the constituency and then pretended to stand up for the postmasters at a public meeting. Strangely enough, Khan was then suddenly elevated to the position of Transport minister.
In short, Khan betrayed his 'people' to further his career. The postmistress - now a former Labour party member - informs me she she will be voting Conservative. The letters have gone out to a lot of people. I have a strong disdain for Cameron & Co but I am minded to cast my vote for the Tories simply to see the slimy Khan thrown out in what could be an incredibly delicious Portillo moment.
I, myself, have e-mailed Khan on two occasions; on Lords reform and the closures of the Post Offices. I've never received a reply; not even to follow-up enquiries as to why I never received, er, a reply.
As a footnote, the slimy Khan made the pilgrimage to the Haj last year - the first government minister to do so he proudly trumpets.
Naturally, he didn't pay for trip, so tell me citizens, can you guess who did?

I don't know. Who did pay for the trip and from what budget? I've tried to find out on line, and the best I got was this: www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/sadiq_khan/tootingwhich doesn't really help much. I gather from another story that he had to repay some of his stationery costs, but otherwise his expenses don't seem OTT compared with others'. Alas, the site doesn't record his vote on Post Office closures.

Alas, the site doesn't record his vote on Post Office closures. It was a rhetorical question, it was paid for by the state. The post makes it quite clear; he whipped the MPs to vote for the closures, he too voted for the closures, and then pretended to be the Postmasters' champion - a blatant falsehood. He put his career before his constituents. Not the sort of person you want representing you, wouldn't you say. I hope that's made it clearer for you.

The locals did make a fuss, you'll have to ask the media why they turned a blind eye to it.
