I regard myself as a good English woman, Jim, why is precisely WHY I could never bring myself to vote for the BNP.
I'm wavering between Labour and the Lib Dems.
I certainly won't vote Conservative - Cameron is hopeless and Osborne even worse.
And when I lived in Tooting I always voted Conservative in local elections!

i would think that a good englishman would vote for the bnp. obviously, these chaps leave a little to be desired, but, if their stand on immigration were the law of the land, the rest of the problems would resolve themselves the great pity is that the BNP is an option for many as the politos in the main parties give no sign of adressing certain problems immigration is only part of the problem. it would seem the BNP are a worry in certain areas of the country how they will do i really dont know..if they will gain a seat is i would have thought unlikely although the numbers voting for them may increase....the awful thing is that without this appalling lack of adressing peoples concerns they would have remained in the dustbin where they belong... the far right is growing in numbers across europe thanks to the social engineering and lack of border controls....and the pandering of govs and liberal wets and attitudes of brussels . the far right grows when governments disenfranchise populations.....

I don't regard either Blair or Brown as representing the far left in any respect (any more than I regard Cameron as representing the far right.)
Brown is essentially a social democrat and the best solution would be for an end to the tired old politics and for politicians to start thinking beyond the tired old rhetoric of the past.
I'm very disillusioned with all the parties but Cameron frightens me. He's not just inexperienced (which doesn't matter that much) but manages to be both naive and dishonest at the same time.
He's too much like a Tory clone of Blair to be regarded with anything other than deep distrust.

Mouse, I always enjoy your contributions but if you seriously believe that Gordon Brown is a Marxist I suggest you go and meet a few REAL ones.
They despise Brown more than any reactionary.
I didn't say I was 'happy' about voting for ANY of the choices on offer.
I seriously believe that a Cameron government would make things WORSE in Britain on almost every level.
Sometimes the devil you know IS better than the devil you don't.
I'm not quite sure what you detest about the Lib Dems either - they are at least libertarian, committed to radical cuts in public spending - more so than Labour - trying to work towards SMALL government rather than BIG government, supporters of SMALL business people like Mike and I rather than the BIG business fat cats that Cameron toadies up to .
I hate their pro-EU opinions which is why I always vote UKIP in the Euro elections.
On the other hand, broadly I'm more in sympathy with them than any other party.
Tell me, Mouse, if your vote is being cast (as mine and Mike's are) in a constituency where the Tories are in third place and have no chance of winning, you have a Labour MP at present and the seat is marginal to the Lib Dems, in a case like that a Conservative vote (even if I could bring myself to do it) would be a WASTED vote. Should I vote tactically and try to elect a Lib Dem, vote Labour to keep them in office, or cast a wasted vote that will almost certainly lead to the return of a Labour candidate?

Cameron is trying to pass himself off as a 'compassionate conservative'. We had such an individual on this side of the pond for eight years.
Results were disasterous for the whole world. Joe Stalin could head the Labour government, and they'd get my vote over Cameron and the Tories.

the devil we know has brought this country to the edge of the abyss,,on all fronts..finacial,,leagal..social..educationally etc etc Recent report that the NHS is doing better than ever. Schools performance is better than ever. Schools are now refurbished or rebuilt, so are better than ever. Labour relations are better than ever. Child health better than ever, child support services are better than ever, etc etc Not saying there isn't a lot that is wrong mouse but really - you should give credit where it is due. the throwing up of hands in despair, the wailing in horror and the rending of garments isn't quite warranted, I think

More than 1,000 mediocre schools to be 'taken over' to drive up standards
Individuals will be allowed to apply for anti-social behaviour orders
Foreign workers to be forced to pass language test
Fathers to get four weeks paternity pay
Prisoners forced to pay for the cost of keeping them in jailRead more: LINKLabours colours nailed to the mast.

Universities have remedial classes because there is a need for them. There are 2 reasons for this:
1) they are taking pupils they never would have taken before and so need to work with these pupils to get them as ready for university discipline as the "normal" white middle class privately educated people they are more familiar with
2) Their teaching methods were designed in the dark ages and they see absolutely no reason to change them. This is unfamiliar to a lot of school pupils so they need to be taught how to present the work they do in the university "house style"
There are people in university who cannot string a sentence together, have bloody awful literacy and English skills, and how they got through a school system without this being addressed is a complete mystery. However, it has to be said, they also got through university admissions procedures, so the Unis must have thought they were OK

happy to help
I will admit that when presented with stuff like "this is what a kid in the middle ages had to know to pass an eleven plus and todays kids only have to know the days of the week and even then they get the first 2 letters" I do wonder if the exams are getting easier
But people who know about this stuff tell me that they are not, what has changed is the way that kids are taught to develop their own critical thinking skills and can use their brians more effectively
But I do wish they could learn how to use a comma, which "their / there / they're" to use, why where is never ever to be used instead of were .............
you get my drift

However, it has to be said, they also got through university admissions procedures, so the Unis must have thought they were OK if they cannot string a sentence together then they got through the admission because admission are so low grade that a monkey could pass as for all this white middle class rubish..and it is rubish...where do you think this white middle class comes from it comes from people who were working class who decided they wanted more..and any way as the police are now considered middle class and i belive so are nurses...the boundries on class are so blurred as to be non existant in any real way
